Extremely disappointed in not just the Houston Zoo, but Houston! You need to do better! Yes, it was Saturday, yes it was spring break, and yes, it was a gorgeous day…but I had bought 6 tickets at $41+ a ticket. Arrived 15 minutes prior to my time slot and it took 20 min to just wind through Herman Park area to get to the zoo. Upon arriving, there were zero free handicaps (…and yes, I know Houston folks LOVE their handicap passes if when not handicapped in the slightest!!!). I had 2 individuals in chairs so parking and distance away was out of the question. I circled for almost an hour. People who were also looking for a space…any space…were rude. Cutting folks off, flipping the bird. There were two cops that I saw standing chatting outside of the parking area, but not helping in the least. Extremely disorganized. Again…I understand the reason for the crowds, but if someone is paying over $40 to get in, but they can’t possibly get in, how is that a good policy? We dropped over $250 on tickets only to leave in total frustration after circling for 45 min. I was beyond disgusted. How about a valet type service? Even if restricted to people in wheelchairs? The zoo is one attraction that the handicapped can go to and enjoy with little difficulty…or so I thought!!!!

What a neat experience! We got lucky and so many of the animals were active and available!

I recently visited the Houston Zoo with my family, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. First, parking was extremely difficult. It took us over an hour just to find a spot. The parking lot is quite small for a zoo of this size, and there appears to be very limited parking nearby. As a result, visitors end up sitting in long lines of cars waiting for parking, which made the start of the visit very frustrating. Once inside, the zoo itself did not meet our expectations. The website promotes a large variety of animals, but many of the enclosures were empty. In several of the exhibits that did have animals, there was only one animal present and it was often hidden from view. Additionally, a significant portion of the zoo was under construction during our visit, which further limited what we were able to see. Considering the ticket price of about $40 per person, the experience did not feel worth the cost. Overall, it was disappointing, and unfortunately I would not plan to visit again.

It took an hour to park. Many animals were not out. Exhibits closed for construction. Carousel was closed.

Updated zoom. Worth bringing the family. A little expensive from years back but still worth it.

Whats the point of reserving a time spot, and putting on the site you can come anytime after, just to not have parking? All the free parking was full but they were still letting people in the lots. Asked a security where else to park, and said all the lots were full. We spent 2 hours looking for parking because of insane traffic. We only stay because tickets were $42 non-refundable. We eventually parked at the museum parking garage which was $28...You would think there wouldn't be a line to get in since they only have to scan a barcode on your phone, but it was. Not too many animals to see either. Didn't feel like the same zoo i experienced as a kid or even last year. Also this was Spring Break on a Friday. Tickets were for 9am got in the area at 10am. Didnt get to the zoo until 12pm.
