This is such an amazing place, and I wish we could come more often; however, we had to come on the one free day, book tickets two months in advance and still spent way too much money on food. It’s a place for kids and adults to enjoy, but it is so expensive for a large family! It’s too expensive for a family of 7, like ours. Also, we were only allowed 5 tickets total, so all of our family wasn’t able to get in. Also, with the free tickets, you can’t get in before 1pm and they close at 5 pm. That was quite a rush.

The zoo is one of the best places to visit in Houston. The habitats are very unique and well designed, and the animals are grouped in interesting combinations (some by regions and some by type). The different areas of the zoo have unique settings that keep things interesting, and there's a nice balance of indoor and outdoor settings. Lots of shade while you're moving about is really helpful in the summer. The keeper chats are also great. Clean restrooms and actually good food as well. Only challenge is parking: the lots can get full early and it can be a long, unshaded walk to get in.

The Houston zoo is a wonderful experience. It is clean and well designed. The habitats for the animals are designed to meet the animal's needs and are very spacious. The animals look beautiful and their spaces are clean. You can tell they are cared for. Take an umbrella due to the unexpected Houston showers, but even in the rain, it is delightful. The staff, especially Lisa, are wonderful and helpful. You need to go and visit this zoo!

Used to go to the zoo a lot in the late 1950s and 1960s when it was free now they charge to get in but that's okay
