This zoo is really nice. Several different exhibits. Most have multiple viewing areas where you can get up close. Several indoor viewing areas as well so you can get out of the heat for a bit. The staff was great and was always offering up extra info about the animals they happened to be near or pointing them out. I will say though this is one of the pricier zoos we have been to. We were able to use our little rock zoo membership to get 50% off tickets so that was nice. Also, you get free parking. You currently have to buy tickets online in advance and make reservations. It's also located near a few museums as well as some parks and there is a train nearby that can take you around Hermann park to get to other places easier without having to keep moving your car. (I think it was $18 for 3 of us to get on and off all day long).

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful first time visiting the Houston Zoo today. Even with the classic Texas heat, it was a fun, memorable experience and a great way to spend the day. Weather and Comfort It was undeniably hot out today, but we got incredibly lucky with a well-timed rain shower. The rain rolled in and perfectly cooled everything down, making our walk through the exhibits much more comfortable. One of the biggest perks of the Houston Zoo is its flexible outside food and beverage policy. We packed a backpack with our own food and drinks, which was a huge lifesaver. It kept us hydrated and energized without having to stop and wait in food lines. Entry and Exhibits Getting into the park was a breeze. The entry lines were incredibly speedy and efficient, allowing us to get straight to the attractions rather than standing around at the front gate. Once inside, there is an impressive amount to do. We found ourselves easily spending several hours exploring the different habitats, and there was never a dull moment. Perfect Location I absolutely love that the zoo is situated directly adjacent to Hermann Park. It makes the entire area feel like a massive, scenic green oasis in the middle of the city. Key Takeaways Smooth Entry: Very fast and efficient lines to get inside. Guest-Friendly: Being able to bring our own backpack with food and drinks is a massive plus for convenience and budget. Endless Activities: There is so much to do and see; plan to spend a solid chunk of your day here. Great Surroundings: Being right next to Hermann Park adds so much value and beauty to the overall visit. Overall, it was a fantastic day out with plenty to keep us entertained for hours. Highly recommended!

I loved visiting the Houston Zoo! It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The place is very clean and well-maintained, and the restrooms were always clean, too—which makes a big difference during a visit. There is food available inside the zoo, parking is convenient, and getting there is very easy. What I liked most was the wide variety of animals. You can spend hours exploring and learning, and it’s an enjoyable outing for both children and adults. I will definitely be back and recommend a visit to anyone in Houston!

We sort of enjoyed / it was hot so many animals were not out I guess. But Galogopos exhibit could be better. The water is so cloudy couldn’t see seals - we saw two and no sea lions. That’s not the heat. The gorilla made himself throw up three times. Do Something about his being bored. No water fountains work and water 6.49 that’s ridiculous. I feel like with the prices they could be better taken care of.

We had an amazing time at the Houston Zoo! The zoo is clean, well-organized, and has a wonderful variety of animals. The exhibits are spacious, and it's easy to spend the whole day exploring. There are plenty of shaded areas, making it comfortable even on warm days. It's a perfect place for families, especially with kids. The staff was friendly, and everything was well maintained.

We love the Houston Zoo and have a membership. If you live in town and have young children, the membership really is the way to go. You can go see animals for just an hour or two or go all day, essentially for free. There’s so much to do and see, it’s difficult to do in one day. It’s especially nice to bring lunches and let your kids play on the playground and eat. Another favorite from my family is to get the dippin dots by the zebras and watch them as we eat the frozen treat. I would highly recommend the giraffe feedings at 11am. It’s such a fun experience for all ages. One of my children loves the gift shop as an actual store because they have such a huge variety of stuffed animals at a really fair price (around $28 for the big-ish ones). Some of their other toys are rather expensive but the stuffies are great.
