The zoo has some unique features and animals. The amount of shade/covered areas and indoor viewing was great. The food however should not be marked as vegan or vegetarian if it is fried in oil that also fries meat. It is no longer vegetarian and mismarked. I had hoped for freshly popped popcorn than pre-made in a bag. The swirl soft serve was tasty on a hot day.

We drove 45 minutes to Houston Zoo for Zoo Boo, only to be told it was a staff-only night. I’m a zoo member, and I couldn’t find any notice on the website or social media saying the event was closed to the public. It was frustrating to make the trip with my family and find out only after we arrived. Please make event closures clear and easy to find before families head out.
