I went here with my family twice,once in 2021 and once in 2025,I gotta say they changed a lot since I first came here,not in a bad way,lots of animals,attractions are great,the animals look healthy and in good and trusted care,so yeah

Writing this from the joint account I share with my husband. We took our 3 kids to the zoo today, we got there at 1 pm and left about a quarter to 5. Half of the animals were in doors in their habitats due to the cold, understandable. Also there were two exhibits we couldn’t view bc my young children (4,1,3months) were getting tired and the zoo was close to closing anyways. I recommend going earlier than what we did as on a warmer day I’m estimating the whole zoo would take about 6hrs total. Over all even though it was cold and a little busy(surprisingly being it was a weekday) it was a good experience. I do recommend purchasing tickets online. For Military(Active,Veterans/or retired as well as spouses of military personnel) there are discounts, very easy to access online. As it’s listed under discounted tickets tab. Be prepared to bring Military ID as they will need to check whilst they scan your tickets on your Phone. Children 1&Under are free entry. 3 and up you will need to pay the fee. Will be back again in the spring time hopefully.

Even for the cool weather today (42⁰, 1/30/26) the staff was helpful and pleasant, the site was clean, the crew doing the renovations for the rhinos were courteous, and the exhibits not disappointing. Great and affordable location for a day date with your children or significant other. Parking was a bit tight, not crowded, but plenty of it for a short walk past the Hermann Memorial Park.

We spent the morning in a special event bathing an elephant! It was a blast (literally)! Later we met Ashley (Guest Engagement Specialist) who made my birthday at the Houston Zoo even more amazing with a button for my special day and an encouraging talk about upcoming events! We then were directed to a meet-and-greet with Clark the Macaw and his handler. Ashley was engaging and very welcoming, and made our visit better. Thank you zoo team!
