What a nightmare. The zoo and the city of Houston should be ashamed at the poor lack of planning for parking and traffic flow. Took us an hour just to navigate the parking lot and find a spot to park. The south entrance is now closed causing a jam at the only active entrance. Stay away!

I've been to the Houston Zoo probably a dozen times over the years and have always had a positive perception. After yesterday's visit I doubt we will be back anytime soon. The staggered entry time is a great idea many venues use around the country. It would work better if it actually kept the park from being overloaded. We had tickets for 10AM and showed up around 10:45AM to spend an hour looking for parking because all their lots were full. You wouldn't know that, though, because only one of the barricades had a sign that said that pointing in one direction. We paid, through the Houston Zoo website, for parking at an off-site lot about a 30 minute walk away.. paying for parking after spending $120 for three to go to the zoo. Immediately we are greeted by Disney in the summer sized crowds. Do they just sell all the tickets at the earliest time? The staff were overloaded and clearly not having a good time. I'm not kidding, I think half the total exhibits were down for maintenance. The other half were tired looking or hiding away in the hot summer mid-day. The only places where we actually saw animals were the Okapi, Meerkats and the reptile room. Overcrowded, overpriced and no way to handle the volume they have on non-refundable tickets.. all on a Friday. It's a shame everything has to be squeezed for every last ounce of profit. What was once a great zoo has devolved into a poorly managed cash grab. We won't be back anytime soon.

4 year member. I live close by so it’s worth it for me, since I’ll go more than twice each year. It’s okay to visit occasionally, but I realized you can walk the whole park in 50 minutes with a stroller. It’s fairly small. I do wish it was bigger. Food is mediocre, don’t bother with the pretzels. Frozen treats are nice during the summer. Not a ton of indoor spots, so bring water and an umbrella in the summer. They’re closing the Natural Encounters building, so I think that only leaves Gorillas/reptiles/galapagos/dining as a respite from the heat. Parking is a beast if you come later than 10AM (I have a “Never Again after 10” rule for the zoo). Come mentally prepared to drive around stalking and looking for spots for 10-20 minutes. Easier to find a spot at 3 and after as well. All-in-all it’s a fun half day out when it’s not peak summer. Wish it was bigger, but it’s as big as the space allows. I love going to The Commons, a 5-8 minute walk away from the zoo, as well. You can pack a picnic lunch to take there after the zoo and eat and let kids play on the playground. Good way to spend a full day wearing little ones out.

My grandchildren, daughter in law and I spent the day at the Zoo. I haven't been in quite some time. I was disappointed. What animals that were out looked miserable. So many of the habitats looked awful. As much as it is to get into the zoo you would think things would be better. The whole place looks run down, the employees looked miserable, the animals looked miserable and the habitats were just dried out and boring for the animals to be in. Do better Houston Zoo.

Don’t go on a holiday or weekend. Finding a decent parking place is a nightmare. Also, don’t buy your tickets till you get there. Either way, you can only purchase online. However, if you can’t find parking, your tickets are useless.

You must visit zoo once, kids can explore their knowledge by visiting all section like, bug house, reptile section, wild animals, Birds section, water animals etc... Sea lion, Penguin , Giraffe, Gorilla, camodo dragon, etc are best attractions of zoo. My kids really enjoyed that visit. Please take a note that you must have to arrive early for exploring whole zoo. It takes min 6 hrs.
