I expected to see way more animals than I did. It was nightmarishly difficult to find a an open parking spot.

As zoos go, this one is “mid tier.” The reason is not the expansive land area. The issues with this zoo are: 1- the ticket price is NOT worth $40 2- many animal exhibits appear as the animals are bored. There is not enough enrichment. 3- some exhibits are missing necessities. the elephant exhibits for example, do not all have a source of water or pool that is filled. It’s >100F in Texas. Are you kidding me? 4- the food is a rip off even considering zoo prices. $7 for a tiny packet of Dippin dots. At other major zoos (Dallas, Fort Worth), $6 gets you a large cup! I’m not sure what yall are doing at the Houston Zoo, but these prices are ridiculous. When I lived in HTown, prices were $20-30. The current prices are delulu

Had a great time at the zoo. It’s expensive though. The zoo in Chicago is free. Not sure where the taxes go.

This zoo is very well maintained. The animals are well cared for and gorgeous. They have a wide variety of species from around the world. The Galapagos exhibit is excellent. Komodo dragon amazing. The pigmy hippo is playful and fun. In spite of being crowded due to spring break there was always comfortable space to watch the animals. My only concern is that some of the confinement spaces are very small - in particular for big cats. This zoo is part of Hermann park - a gorgeous green area in the middle of Houston.

I usually come as often as I can with my kiddos. We've had a membership for several years and they still love coming to the zoo! We love seeing all the animals and visiting the children's area. Depending on the day and time, parking can be a challenge. We typically bring our own food and drinks, but there are lots of cafe/snack areas and the prices are not too bad in a pinch.
