Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was hands down one of the highlights of our trip to Brisbane! We did the Koala Close Up encounter (a 15-minute experience), and it was absolutely worth it. I highly recommend booking in advance, as spaces are limited and sell out quickly. While the tickets aren’t cheap, you get to pet and feed a koala (no holding), see them up close, and ask questions — the caretakers are incredibly knowledgeable. The staff and volunteers were genuinely warm and welcoming, and you could really tell how much they care about the animals. There are many opportunities to get close to different animals, and the kangaroo feeding was a big highlight. Even when the kangaroos weren’t very interested in food, they were calm and happy to let us get close. The park is stroller-friendly overall (except when walking across lawn areas), which made it easy to visit with a young child. We went in the afternoon and didn’t see much activity from the nocturnal animals, so a morning visit may be better for that. It can get very hot, so bring plenty of water. We also loved the gift shop — lots of adorable Australian animal items. My son adores his wombat plushie, and I love my bandicoot keychain. Highly recommended, especially for families.

(Translated by Google) A fantastic park with tons of koalas, kangaroos, bird species, reptiles, and much more. I recommend going at least two hours before closing time to have plenty of time to see everything. You can buy tickets online in advance or on-site.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a beautiful, well-maintained place with amazing wildlife. The variety of animals, informative talks, and well-organised layout made the visit both enjoyable and educational. It’s a perfect experience for families, visitors, and anyone wanting to connect with Australian wildlife in a respectful and meaningful way. Highly recommended and definitely worth a visit!

I was genuinely shocked by my visit to Lone Pine Koala “Sanctuary”. Calling this place a sanctuary is extremely misleading this is clearly a zoo, and a very questionable one. Many of the enclosures are extremely small, especially for birds and reptiles. The birds cannot even fly properly, which is heartbreaking to watch. This is not conservation, it is confinement. The koala enclosures are particularly disturbing: they are tiny, with fake trees, concrete floors, and the animals are kept very close to humans. In the wild, koalas live high up in real trees, far from constant human presence not at ground level surrounded by noise and people. What shocked me the most is that there is still the possibility to touch, pet and take photos with koalas. Koalas are known to be highly sensitive and easily stressed animals. Allowing physical contact for tourism and profit is unacceptable and unethical. Even worse, the so-called “koala forest” is located right next to the restaurant, in the middle of where people are eating, talking and moving around constantly. Calling this a forest is frankly shameful. This place relies heavily on greenwashing and marketing, using the word “sanctuary” to make visitors believe they are supporting animal welfare, when in reality they are visiting a commercial zoo. The animals may be legally “well cared for”, but this is far from a natural or respectful environment. If you truly care about animal welfare, this place will leave you uncomfortable and disappointed. Shameful do not go there!

(Translated by Google) Koalas here too! There are koalas too!! Compared to other zoos, you can see koalas not through glass, but at a relatively close distance from the fence. This is truly a koala mecca. Kangaroos and wallabies also run freely in the vast area. We visited the home of koalas and kangaroos.

What can I say but WOW. We took a tour with just one other person and had a fantastic time. Our hostess was so knowledgeable and passionate about the reserve (also from Colorado which was a fun surprise). We spent half a day here and saw it all, It lived up to it's promises.

A lovely day out at lone pine with visitors from the UK and Canada. Highly recommend to those who want to see koalas amongst other Australian animals. The dining area that is surrounded by koalas is a real treat and great opportunity for photos.
