A wonderful Zoo. The keepers were very knowledgeable and informative. Beautiful lay out. Easy to get from 1 path to another. For as HOT as it was, the animals were out & about. There were plenty of ledges & shady spots for them to nap. * FYI - We purchased a City Pass - definitely the way to go if you have the time! Your choice of 5 Houston attractions. We spent about 6 hours at the Zoo - go as early as possible and enjoy! We then, went to The Aquarium for about 4 hours.

We came at 3pm because it was less expensive but almost no animals were out and the shops were closed very early too. We do not recommend coming at this time of the day...

We recently took part in a Houston Zoo After Hours Experience. Fantastic! The staff and the animals treated us like VIPs! We were chauffeured through the entire zoo in a golf cart and provided snacks throughout the tour. All the animals we viewed were active - many vocalizing - with the exception of the lions. We even got to see the notoriously shy anaconda in her entirety! The individual that accompanied us was very knowledgeable. So nice to interact with someone so enthusiastic about what she does. I highly recommend this experience for anyone interested in seeing the animals in a more peaceful setting and receiving personalized attention from the staff. We're still talking about it two weeks later...

Very nice zoo, and has been for many decades. It has changed in positive ways since childhood - except for removal of the colorful and beloved lion statue (we all still miss him)! Beautiful to walk around - fun holiday events (Zoo Lights, etc.) - nice shaded areas, interesting dining, solid gift shop. Accessibility is good. Pricing is not over the top for entry or for purchases once inside.
