Disappointed with Late Entry Policy at Houston Zoo Our family from Colombia came to Houston and we visited the Houston Zoo around 3–4 p.m., hoping to enjoy the cooler part of the day, especially given the intense Texas heat. While the zoo sells tickets for these late entry times (at regular price), what they don’t clearly disclose is that the entire park closes promptly at 5 p.m. — regardless of when you arrive. By the time we made our way through, many animals were no longer visible or active, and we were literally asked to leave while still inside the reptile house, which was our last stop on the way out. The experience felt rushed, disappointing, and poorly communicated. It felt like the zoo takes advantage of late visitors without offering a fair experience, a fair price or warning!

The Houston Zoo changed my opinion about zoos. I thought they were only for kids, but this one had a large variety of exotic animals, easy to walk around and clean facilities. I was pleasantly surprised.

Visited on a weekend it was busy but not intolerably so. Some patrons like to harass the animals and leave trash which is always unfortunate but there are some of those everywhere. They kept it really clean. Staff were extraordinarily nice on every level. Toddler enjoyed the petting zoo.
