Me and my husband decided to visit the Houston Zoo on a trip during July 4th. We visited on Thursday. It was awesome. They have a lot of animals and very happy ones. The animals were so active and only bummer was that it rained for about half hour and we learned that monkeys don’t like rain and that send them inside their cages. Other than that they have so many exhibits. It’s like a lot of fun regardless of age. They also have two restaurants with different styles of food. Only one suggestion. I hope they have a chicken or turkey. I was surprised that they didn’t have chicken or turkey sandwich. But overall this zoo is a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend to visit. My favorite exhibits were the Lion, elephants and the chimpanzees. Loved them. I have a special video of the lion. Please don’t forget to watch.

Great zoo and lots of animals spotted. Need plenty of time if you want to cover the entire zoo. I recommend to carry lot of water and energy drinks as it is too hot and outdoors.

Beautiful grounds, the exhibits were very kid friendly as gar as the views. Lots to see and learn about the animals. Lots of places to sit. I had a coffee walking in and they allowed ot. I saw alot of people with their own food.

The zoo animals itself gets 4 stars . My only suggestion that obviously plan accordingly and check the weather app but the zoo could do with some extra amenities to protect the visitors so they can continue to enjoy the zoo. It would make more sense to offer refreshments that are safe to drink during this insane humid heatwave we’ve been struggling with in Houston , especially the summer. There bathrooms are very far away for those adults and children alike who start to get dizzy , or nauseous or worse. There’s so much ice cream and beer/soda options and barely any stalls or spots for safe drinking and eating for every one of those people who struggle with this insane heat. It would be nice is the benches had a decent overhead shading so that those that need to lay down for a few to get their bearings could do without being blasted in direct sunlight. It’s hard enough as it is when the zoo gets insanely packed that it caused a lot of walking traffic. The water fan sprayers are $17 and that’s so expensive so those who are spending a lot of money on one small barely cooled over priced water bottle. It’s already a long walk to any parking lot in this heat to be able to keep your health and safety in mind and not burden or be in the way of others. By 3-4 a lot of animals are already inside their personal spaces to even be seen because they can’t tolerate the heat either. It would be great to enjoy this zoo ( which takes about 3ish hours to full enjoy ) knowing your the safety of your health and that of your family is prioritized.
