We were in town for Houston's 713 weekend so admission was only $7.13. We got there at 1pm and they were sold out by 2:30pm. All of the exhibits were pretty nice, lots of variety with the animals and most of them had companions. The map is situated at all junctions, or you can use a QR code to download it to your phone. It was a really hot day so it was nice to have the various gift shops to take a break in. If you really want to escape the heat, though, go to the Galapagos exhibit. My only complaints are that the Rhino only had a dirty, muddy puddle to drink from, and there needs to be several attendants in the Chimpanzee viewing area to keep feral children under control when parents aren't being parents. Tons of kids were banging on the glass, trying to get the primates to react and they were also blocking the view for other visitors. Other than that, the food was pretty cheap compared to other zoos and the facilities were extremely clean. I love all of their explanations of their conservation efforts, the additional viewing areas, and the attentiveness of the staff as well as all of the facilities catered to different groups of people. Would definitely come back on a cooler day.

Good zoo. Free public parking. Buy tickets ahead of time. It's an option on City Pass. There were some construction zones so definitely come now and again when that's done. Food was not great and very expensive for the convenience. I recommend bringing your own cooler. Prepare for lots of walking. The Galapagos area was stroller free but would have been fine imo. We went on a Thursday. There were lots of kids for the zoo club doing cool stuff. Definitely check that out if you're local. I would say the maps could be clearer on the paths. Did some extra walking due to poor signage/map for a first time visitor. We did the dino thing and unlimited carousel which I guess was worth it for kids happiness but it just added more walking and time imo. So feel free to skip unless you know your kid really wants it. We didn't have much time for the playgrounds which looked very fun. The otters are inside the playground winding in and to the left. That was not intuitive to find. Otters were super cool though. In all some great exhibits a good size zoo plan to spend all day to see it all. We just got tuckered out and overheated being July with a sensitive kid. I appreciated the employees throughout. Wish we could have caught more talks. The ones we were near too many people to see.

I think this zoo is very great for a day out with the family however I had taken my daughter today to see all the animals and we had noticed most of the animals water bowls and the ponds that were there were either empty or barely full. Mind you we came at like 2:30 pm and were there for a few hours as well. I don’t personally know when people go to check on these animals or how often they are out there but I think it should be more.
