Reykjavik Food Lovers Tour Wasn’t sure what expect, but we ended up having a great time with two other couples. Our guide was Paul, a local with a great deal of knowledge of Icelandic food and history, and was entertaining as well. We hit several restaurants where we had dedicated tables and food. The dishes included salted fish, different soups, a local hotdog, and fish and chips. The last restaurant also included beer and wine. We ended up walking approximately a mile overall. Worth the time and money-especially if you aren’t familiar with local cuisine.

I went on the folklore tour with Mattias on Thursday 4th December. It was fantastic. The stories were fascinating and Mattias was very knowledgeable and had a very welcoming ambiance. I would highly recommend this tour and was encouraged to try another. The food walking tour with Einas was great. Einas was very enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed talking about the various foods we tried and gave us a history of how the dishes were made. The food itself was interesting and I enjoyed sampling everything from soup to cake. The tour has left me with a better understanding of Icelandic traditional recipes and I really enjoyed hearing Einas and spending a few hours in his company

We did the Christmas Walking Tour with Einar on 12/1 and really enjoyed learning about the folklore and traditions--Gryla, the Yule Lads, and the Yule Cat--associated with Christmas in Iceland. Einar walked us around the Oslo tree, singing a Christmas song, and then followed that up with a couple of verses of one of his favorite Christmas songs in the Domkirkjan i Reykjavik - he has a BEAUTIFUL voice and it was such a treat to hear him sing. We finished up at 12 Tonar, where he played a couple of songs his grandmother wrote (!) and which have been published; one has been covered by the artist Bjork. Such an outstanding tour; we highly recommend the tour and Einar in particular. Thank you so much!

We greatly enjoyed our walking food tour with Your Friend in Reykjavik. Palli (Pàll), our guide, was informative, upbeat, open, and fun. As a native Icelander and retired fishing boat captain, he was very insightful on a range of topics in addition to food. This is not a simple tasting experience! We had ample portions of a broad range of dishes, all of which I enjoyed. Our group was small and congenial, and Palli was a gem. At 6’4” at least with long blond hair and beard, he was easy to follow. Excellent experience!

Bo was VERY knowledgeable. Gave some great restaurant rec’s beyond the restaurants included. The food at all 5 stops was fresh, tasty and truly got a fantastic sampling of Icelandic fair. I have used GYG many times and this tour was just as great as all the rest have been! Thanks!
