Small but beautiful. Good for kids. Some construction ongoing in April 2025. Should arrive early on weekends for parking spot.

Visited the Houston Zoo during a special event on a Saturday weekend at noon Special events: The Masihara pavilion can seat up to 400 people but it’s a pretty compact space with mostly sitting at round tables that are closely set. The seating is mostly picnic style chairs but good news is they’re all covered under the tent (so not as hot under the sun). The event offered BBQ food (including veggie options) on three tables from 11a - 1p. The food wasn’t OK to below average. The brisket was cut super slim, overcooked and far from classic slow-roasted, tender and juicy BBQ brisket. Sides including the beans, potato salad, and coleslaw were solid. It looked like the food ran out as staff started to remove food after 12p and left just one table of food. By 12:30p, the food was almost completely gone. In the zoo itself, there’s multiple empty exhibits and I remember there being much more animals a couple years back. It looks like the zoo is undergoing renovations so hope the decrease in animals is just a temporary effect of that.
