Full description

Start your morning in Monti, one of Rome’s most characterful neighborhoods, just a short walk from the Colosseum. Known for its blend of history and local life, this area offers a more authentic side of the city from the very first stop.

Begin on a rooftop overlooking the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where a classic Italian breakfast sets the tone. As you sip your coffee and enjoy fresh pastries, you’ll uncover the subtle, but important, difference between a cornetto and a croissant.

From there, follow your guide through Monti’s lively streets, stopping to taste traditional Roman specialties. Bite into a freshly filled rosetta with porchetta, then continue to a neighborhood deli for a selection of cheeses and cured meats, showcasing the simplicity and quality of local ingredients.

The experience wraps up with a homemade tiramisù in a local café before heading toward the Colosseum, where you’ll capture one of Rome’s most iconic views.

We enjoyed the tour which gave us some great tastes in the company of fellow travellers. Would have liked to the choice of wines to be more local, rather than, for example, Chianti, and Chardonnay was offered at two stops. Otherwise recommended as a way to explore some regional foods.

Amanda was an amazing guide, and I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Her knowledge of Portuguese history was incredibly thorough, and you could tell how much she genuinely enjoys her profession and sharing her culture with visitors. She was also extremely helpful in answering questions about Lisbon, from recommending great restaurants to explaining the best ways to navigate the city. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the salted cod and the dessert at the end. There is plenty to eat, so definitely arrive hungry, but remember to stay hydrated. One practical tip: wear comfortable, supportive footwear because Lisbon has many hills, steps, and cobblestone streets. If your accommodation says the meeting point is a 20 minute walk away, consider allowing twice that amount of time in case you need to stop and rest along the way. Amanda was fantastic, the food was excellent, and I would absolutely take this tour again!

Excellent! We learned a lot about both the food and culture of Denmark. Mark was a fantastic host.
