Pompeii & Herculaneum Day Trip

It was a wonderful day. Long because it was “free admission Sunday” at Pompeii. Our driver, Antonio C., was terrific. He met us at the cruise port right outside the gate right on time. He provided us with information about the area and people both going and coming home. Super comfortable van sized for our tour of 8 people. At Pompeii, our guide was Glauco, an excellent guide who knew how to avoid the giant crowds and was able to give us so much more insight into the buildings and events of Pompeii then we had the previous time we had gone there. He didn’t just go to the places other large tours followed, he brought us to place others don’t walk through. We then had a very nice lunch, relaxed atmosphere and never rushed by Antonio. At Herculaneum our guide, Alessio, was also top-notch. We walked over a significant amount of the city (on a very warm day), and saw/learned the difference in the impacts from the volcano. Bottom line, Antonio, Glauco, and Alessio were super. We highly recommend them and the folks at WorldTours who communicated the logistics to us.

It was a fascinating experience with knowledgeable guides at each location. We are glad we visited both sites, in this order: Pompei (with Antonio), then Herculaneum (with Nina). It made sense to get a vision of the scope of a Roman city first in Pompei, and then to see a more specialized community and appreciate the unique preservation.

We booked a small group tour with Askos and our guide Luciano Leone was FANTASTIC. Not only did he know his stuff as an archeologist but he had wonderful photos to add to his talks. Luciano had a wonderful sense of humor and was able to guide the tour participants seamlessly around Herculaneum. We learned so much about the history and lifestyles of the Roman people and most especially the fascinating details bailout the explosions and excavations of the site.
