Get an audio guide

At the pick up point there were several groups milling around, and it was almost by chance we found our pick up. When we arrived at Pompeii. the first thing that happened was we were shepherded into a merchandising opportunity. As soon as we realised what was happening we left. The guide was dull and uninspiring. We walked up to the entrance to the park and she gave us a 'photo opportunity', though I suspect it was more a chance for her to catch her breath as she was breathing heavily after the climb up. Throughout the tour she seemed fixated on the way the romans managed waste water, frequently pointing out gutters etc. She was very repetitive. In a bath house we were told about the hollow walls to to allow warm air circulation, several times. When we returned a coupe of days later, with an audio guide, we discovered many spectacular places we missed, including the incredible amphitheatre. The entry tickets with an audio guide were much better value, and far more enjoyable and informative, plus it came with the added bonus of being able to switch it off if it was boring.

Interesting informative just long enough

We went on the 10.30 trip which took around 4.5 hours from start to finish. It was excellent. The guide Tomas was fabulous as were his colleagues but he was stand out .

Naples - Pompeii and Vesuvius Tour

Great experience, we did the pompeii and vesuvius in one day tour. Pickup from Naples hotel was great, about 5 mind late due to Naples traffic. About 40 mins to Pompeii, met archeologist guide who was incredible, took us swiftly through Pompeii whilst sharing significant facts about what it would have been like to live in that time, food, work, politics. Lunch was great, food excellent and speedy. Vesuvius amazing, great views when there’s little cloud. Would definately recommend.

The itinerary may vary from day to day depending on the opening of certain offices, depending on attendance. One building per category is guaranteed to be visited-1 Temple, 1 Market, 1 Shop, 1 Villa, 1 Thermal Plant, 1 Theater, and the Forum. The choice of buildings visited is determined from time to time by the guide based on attendance, waiting times in case of long lines, or opening hours of the buildings. - The tour includes a visit to a Cameo factory, the Cameo is a typical Roman-era jewel found during excavations at Herculaneum and Pompeii in 1748. In the factory you will be able to see a craftsman at work, the cameo is a piece of jewelry made from congeals and precious stones and is hand engraved by the craftsman. A visit to the factory will allow you to use the toilets free of charge before entering the excavations, so the stop at the Cameo Factory in addition to being informative is essential in terms of managing your visit to the Pompeii excavations. The tour is confirmed in the chosen language if the group reaches 6 participants; if the group does not reach 6 participants, the guide will be replaced by an audioguide in the chosen language or your choice in an English-language guide.
