Full description

Naples has a way of feeding you before you've even decided you're hungry. This small-group tour moves through the monumental heart of the city, from the iron-and-glass grandeur of the Galleria Umberto I to the sun-bleached alleys of the Spanish Quarters, pausing at the kind of family-run spots that don't need a sign outside because the neighborhood already knows them.

You'll start the way every Neapolitan morning should: espresso and a sfogliatella whose layers shatter on cue. Then comes a frittatina di pasta with a five-generation pedigree, slow-cooked pasta served with bread for the inevitable scarpetta, a Caprese built on buffalo mozzarella delivered that morning, and a pizza Margherita eaten where the recipe was born.

The Spanish Quarters open up between stops, chaotic, colorful, and completely alive. The tour ends in the grand piazza with homemade limoncello and a scoop of artisanal gelato, which turns out to be the ideal punctuation for an afternoon spent eating like a local in one of Europe's most misunderstood cities.

One of the best Venice city food tour experiences we have ever done. The guide took us to authentic local spots, and every dish was fresh and flavorful. We especially enjoyed the cicchetti, the spritz pairings, and the delicious prosecco served with the polenta and polpetta di carne.

The best way to get to know a culture is to taste and learn about its food. My nephew and I had a great time on this tour, and I felt the expense was worth the experience. There was plenty of yummy food and drink, too.
