A Bucket List Trip
My hubby booked a small group tour as a birthday gift for me and it took nearly 12 hours. It was a long day but there were only four of us and we all got along fine. There was some confusion about getting to the pickup location (given bad directions by someone who didn't know where anything was), and nearly missed the meeting time. Luckily for us, Brent was willing to come by our hotel and get us. He was more than friendly and helpful the entire day, and we all talked together the whole day about our various travels. He also had great snacks, water and sodas the entire day for us. He also laid out a picnic lunch from a catering company (like I have read they do for their customers) on a picnic bench near Coldwater Lake. We also took intervals outside the van to walk through old growth forests and one that led to a nice waterfall. I had lousy shoes on that day and I managed to do all of the walks except the last half of the last one. My good walking shoes were left in a hotel near Seattle and I didn't have time to replace them, so I was pretty proud of myself for doing all that walking over rocky, rooty and hilly terrain. When we did get to Mt. St. Helen's, many other people were out that day, and it actually cleared off at the top, which our guide says "never happens." I felt pretty special since I got to see that on my birthday. The only reason that I didn't give this tour a five rating was, it was too long a day for me. We had been on the move non stop for several days, some nights not even getting dinner, and I was ready for some rest!
Fantastic tour to Mt St Helens
We had a fantastic tour to Mt St Helens on a sunny Weds with tour guide Connor and 3 other travellers. The tour was well planned with many stops at interesting places, explaining the natural history of the area and then the volcanic eruption itself. Connor picked a great picnic spot near Coldwater lake and put on a delicious gourmet lunch spread. I appreciate the effort Connor went to during the drive playing us an audio book of people’s experiences during the volcanic eruption. He always made sure we had a drink or snack. His knowledge of the geological landscape was extensive. And the finale taking us to Joe’s Survivor museum was amazing to view the local people’s experience of that time during the volcanic activity. Overall a fantastic day!
Great way to visit Mt ST Helen's
We went on three 1-day trips with Evergreen Escapes: to Olympic NP, St Helens and Rainier. All of them were great, very well organized, offered a tailor-made programme, with beautiful sights and hikes adjusted to everyones's abilities. For Mt St Helen's our guide was Sarah, who was very professional and took good care of us, entertaining us. The trip included a visit to the visotor centre, with lots of useful information about the 1980 eruption, a delicious lunch in a nice picnic spot and some hikes, the longer of which was through areas that the nature is reclaiming after the eruption. Definitely recommended!

Incredible Experience of Mount St. Helens!!
Brent Maphis, Naturalist Guide, took our tour group on a mind blowing excursion of Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. The trip was worth every penny as it opened my thoughts to nature and the majestic power that the 1980 volcanic eruption of Mount Saint Helens caused. Yet, the damage of the 1980 eruption was replaced by new lakes and greenery. If you are open to seeing nature in a new way, and are willing to have your perceptions of the incredible force of the Mount Saint Helens 1980 volcanic eruption enhanced a thousand fold—then this tour is for you! Wow is all I can say! Brent Maphis, Naturalist Guide, did a spectacular job gently guiding the tour group toward a new and fuller understanding of the incredible Mount Saint Helens Volcanic Monument. Way to go to Evergreen Escapes and Brent Maphis on a job well done! Bravo!
