Four trains/bus from London to Holyhead via a two night stay in Ludlow.

It worked for us. I'd suggest taking your own food and drink on the ferry. We took a train to Ludlow from Paddington Station. Two trains to Ludlow where we stayed two nights. Check out festivals in Ludlow. We were to take two more trains, following our stay in Ludlow, to Holyhead and then the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin. The last leg of our trip to the ferry was by rail and we were concerned how we'd get from he train station to the ferry. No worries! We disembarked from he train right at the ferry terminal!

Brian Duggan was the best tour guide! Passionate about all things Irish, from history to lore to personal tales. He never missed a beat. Learned a great deal from Brian. Thanks a bunch!

Booked through Viator - 4 day independent London to Dublin by Virgin Train and Irish Ferry

I am writing this in the hope that it can help others that are looking at this tour. My mother was booked on the 4 Day Independent London to Dublin by Virgin Trains and Irish Ferry tour. This was booked through Viator. I have to express our sincere disappointment. It was the first time my mother has done such a trip on her own. This is billed as a 4 day trip, however neglects to say that 2 of those days are solid travel. At least 9 hours on the first day and the same on the last. So really it is only 2 actual days in Dublin. This is not communicated on any correspondence, nor was the time of arrival, departure from Dublin, or even the name of the hotel. The only information we were given was the meeting time and place on the first day. Now we know why...it would have ensured we did NOT book this trip. This tour does not demonstrate value for money and there was no transparency or any details for around travel time and duration which is what really impacted the trip. We tried to get in touch with Viator to ask questions before she left but it was nearly impossible to get any detail. So disappointed as my Mother was really looking forward to this and ended up being utterly exhausted by all the travel in such a short space of time. We would never book with Viator again.

Excellent support by staff assisting...

Excellent support by staff assisting us. Met at the station, picked up from the ferry and brought back to the ferry. The free tickets for the hop-on hop-off bus were great. Really enjoyed the tour of Dublin. Hotel was excellent. Nice room and friendly staff. Only complaint was that the seats on the train weren't reserved for us and the train was quite booked. ended up in the last carriage.
