Product: Rome: Domus Aurea Guided Group Tour

We did the Caravaggio in Rome tour with Alexandre (sp), and it was phenomenal. The tour goes to three churches in Rome for a total of six Caravaggios. And the guide was so knowledgeable and also very up to date on the scholarship, explaining how views had changed overtime and how different views were more or less supported by the evidence. It was an incredible tour of the artwork. The tour included about one mile of walking to the churches. The guide introduced Caravaggio, giving us a historic overview before heading into the Churches and then provided detailed commentary on each painting. I really can't say enough about how impressed we were with the guide's knowledge. She was also very open to questions. Highly recommend. The only recommendation I have is that the tour company give the guide some Euros to put into the offering so we can have continuous light on the paintings (or ask guests to bring some Euros--we didn't have any!)!

Good tour with a good guide, which really helped to put the Roman Forum into perspective as it is quite ruined. A quality guide is a great investment here as just walking through on your own would be a bit like looking at a pile of rubble. Instead, our guide was able to explain what was really happening here back in the day and how the Forum and the Colosseum were eventually preserved. The company was also good about reminding me the tour was coming up and even calling to make sure I found my guide when I got a little lost en route to the meeting point. My one suggestion for improvement would be that, among the reminders, they might have included a note to let me know that there were quite a few street closures near the meeting point and I should budget extra time.

A guided tour is worth it

The best tour of Ancient Rome

This was probably the best tour we have ever taken. Our guide, Ricardo, is a historian, and his knowledge was comprehensive. At each step of the way, in the Forum, Palatine Hill, and the Colosseum he taught us (in flawless English) about the history and significance of what we were looking at. He answered all of our questions and was very interesting to talk to. The sights are so impressive, and so historic. Don’t miss this tour.

We had the two hour small group tour of the Uffizi Gallery. We ended being just us (my wife and myself). Our guide was Fadi Bassil. The tour was very informative and an intellectually rich way to see the gallery. Fadi placed works of art in the context of the evolution of art and the history of florence in a truly helpful and illuminating way.

Not responsive to problem of wrong tour delivered

We have taken several Through Eternity Tours while we have lived in Italy for the last year. All of these tours have been very good and delivered by knowledgable historians. Our most recent tour was promised a visit to the Raphael Rooms at the Vatican. However some problem with Through Eternity and the tour guide led to the guide skipping the Raphael Rooms. I tried unsuccessfully to get Through Eternity to address the issue. The tour we requested and paid for was more expensive than the one delivered. I have not heard back from the operator. In fact, my chat for that tour has been removed from the company's app. I think the problem with the tour was an unfortunate, unintended error of communication. But the lack of response from the operator is the real concern. We have been good customers of this company and this situation has left a bad taste. I have selected average for the lack of response.

Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made our visits to Palatine Hill and the Colosseum feel really special. She always knew exactly where we should stand to get the best views and some brilliant photos. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish.

Clearly they overbook slots and then ask you to change your plans to suit them. I’d booked an “early morning” Vatican tour, for 730am. I get a message saying they can no longer do this and it will start at 9am. Defeats the whole point, and there was no mention of reimbursement. Why should I pay early morning prices for a 9am start? I’d rather book with a company that honours what they advertise- I have cancelled and requested a refund but I am still waiting.
