I really wanted to love Papillon Helicopters, but this ended up being a frustrating experience. Our original flight was cancelled due to weather. No issue at all with that, safety comes first and that’s part of flying in a place like the Grand Canyon. We rescheduled and showed up as instructed, only to be told that flight was cancelled again, this time due to “maintenance.” Maybe that’s true, but it didn’t feel convincing. The whole situation had the feel of an operation running very tight on capacity, and when anything slips, customers get pushed out. We were rescheduled to a third flight, wasted 2 hrs came back and were told that flight was cancelled as well! Basically, ate up half a day of vacation. What stood out most was the number of clearly disappointed people in the lobby. You could tell this wasn’t an isolated case, and employees looked fraught dealing with all the commotion. To be fair, the facility itself is nice and the operation looks professional on the surface. That’s part of what makes this disappointing, expectations are set high. A couple of practical tips for others: • Book your flight at the start of your trip, not the end, so you have buffer if something gets cancelled. • This facility is over an hour’s drive from Williams/Flagstaff, so confirm your flight before you head out. We were told they tried to call us about the cancellation, but we never received anything, which made for a very unnecessary trip. If this experience really matters to you, consider booking multiple flights across different days and even different operators, and purchase the cancellation protection. Most operators will let you cancel for a refund (minus the fee) up to about 24 hours before. It’s not perfect, but it does improve your odds of actually getting in the air. Just don’t expect to cancel same day. Bottom line: beautiful setting, polished front end, but reliability was not there when it mattered. Two stars.

An absolutely incredible experience seeing one of the true marvels of the natural world by land, air and water. It was incredibly well co-ordinated and delivered by a passionate and very informative team. My only feedback is that the duration isn’t long enough as there’s so much to do that it was slightly rushed.

Awesome way to see the Grand Canyon!
It was incredible!! Kate was an awesome pilot. We loved how we got to see so much in such a short amount of time. We also loved the history and Kate’s additional comments and information. She made the experience that much more memorable.

Amazing experience! I wish we went a little slower over the Hoover Damn, and we had slightly better quality snacks for our mini picnic. Thank you for a great time.
