Thanks to Anne, very knowledgeable, welcoming and humorous local guide - “the best” - I spent two beautiful days touring around with her to see a few of the sights not far from Sarlat: La Roque-Gageac and a boat cruise on the Dordogne River, Domme, Beynac, Eyzies and the caves at Rouffignac and Lascaux - not to be missed or “incontournable,” as they say in French. I see from other posts that Anne has had wonderful reviews. The day she was our guide, she was late to the pick up point, somewhat hungover, carelessly dressed, and the sampling points were not ready for us. She gave us little to no information about some of the samples, walked us through the market but had few insights to the products available. She was friendly and on a good day, she would likely be a great guide, but the day we had her, she was not at her best.

We had a fabulous day with our wonderful guide Benoit. We saw all the sights mentioned and a few more things too. Our guide was just delightful. The day was well planned and not rushed. We had a lovely lunch break at a hotel suggested by our guide. I have some back issues and our guide got me a stool for Lascaux. 5 stars for us. A brilliant day!

We had a spectacular day with a very well informed and organized guide (Beniot) who gave a very full and rewarding experience. I highly recommend this tour as it gave us both a grounding in pre-history and a great sense of the Dordogne Valley

We loved being in a small group of 6 with Anne, our exceptional guide. Anne shared her love and knowledge of the Dordogne, specifically the prehistoric caves, and stretched the already full itinerary by stopping for a few moments in various places that she knew to allow us to take photos and ask questions.

We took the one-day tour of Rouffignac and Lascaux... loved it! After a pleasant drive and introduction to the region, our first stop was the prehistory museum at Les Eyzies... whose staff went out on strike just as we arrived! (This was a very French thing to have happen.) Our excellent guide, Anne, quickly changed course... she took us on an impromptu walking tour up to the base of the cliffs, and told us all about them -- probably much more educational than the museum would have been. Then she bought us all coffees at a nearby cafe... wouldn't let us pay. (I hope she got reimbursed!) Next we went to Rouffignac, which was amazing. If you've ever wanted to see cave art but you don't want to crawl through a cave, this is the way to do it -- a little train takes you a mile or so into the mountain, and you get to see the real thing. (It's chilly... bring a sweater.) If you don't have a car, this tour is easily the best way to see Rouffignac. We had lunch on our own back in Les Eyzies, at the little creperie... very good! We then went to Lascaux. I'll be honest: I was not impressed. I mean, the art was definitely worth seeing... but it's a reproduction! I guess you've gotta see it if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't go back. (This is obviously not Ophorus's fault!) But I certainly *would* go back to Rouffignac. Last but not least... if you're a fan of Martin Walker's books, this tour will bring it all to life. You'll be surprised how many place-names you recognize! We really enjoyed this tour and it was worth every penny. Everyone else on the tour seemed to enjoy it as much as we did.

My husband and I took the tour on the 16th of June. Ann , our tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. At the museum she pointed out all the highlights and during the drive in the countryside she explained the prehistory and told us a lot about the area.She is very personable and it almost felt like being on a trip with a friend. During our 14 day trip in Southern France we took several tours and this was by far the best one. On my next visit to France I will look out for Ophorus tours, by the way, what does Ophorus mean ? Is it Greek ? In the Rouffignac Cave it would help to have an audio guide in English. I am from Italy and at all major attractions we have audio guides in several languages, even in French !! Overall it was a very good tour, I can highly recommend it.
