So many exceptional pieces of art -- Bernini sculptures; Caravaggio, Raphael, and Titian paintings; ancient mosaics -- packed into this relatively small gallery. Our tour guide Clarissa was a wealth of knowledge and provided context and fascinating backstories on the works of art and the conniving Cardinal Borghese (nephew to Pope Paul V) who acquired the collection in the early 1600s. Be sure to make reservations several weeks in advance as tickets are limited, but so worth the time and effort if you are an art and history lover.

Unfortunately we never made it in time for the tour. No fault of our own. Our 10 minute taxi ride took 35 minutes because of road works and there was nobody at our air bnb to allow us in. When we did manage to walk past the duomo it looked like a tourist nightmare. So unfortunately we can’t comment on our experience

Tour was fine but the Duomo was so crowded with tours that it was hard to congregate around our guide to hear her, even with the earphones.
