Review of Enrica – Our Guide for the Pompeii & Positano Tour
Our experience with Enrica as our tour guide was mixed. While she had a theatrical presence and a stand-up comedy style that made the tour entertaining, there were several aspects of the trip that left us disappointed. First, when we asked for help finding a pharmacy because my partner’s contact lenses were damaged, she made the process unnecessarily difficult. She dismissed every possible solution we suggested and insisted that we would find a pharmacy in Positano at the end of the tour. However, when we arrived, there was no contact lenses available. Next, she presented a rest stop as a well-maintained place with high-quality products, but in reality, it was a tourist trap with poor facilities—there wasn’t even toilet paper in the restrooms. The local guide for the Pompeii tour was knowledgeable and provided a good experience. However, the pizza meal that Enrica arranged for us was disappointing. It was cold, came in a basic 18-euro package with a soft drink and a dessert that tasted stale, and the restaurant itself was in poor condition. Throughout the trip, Enrica was strict about the schedule, which ensured we saw everything planned. However, while she was polite, she spoke to us in a way that felt more like a strict parent than a guide, which was unnecessary and at times uncomfortable. Additionally, during the journey, she persistently omitted any mention of Greek contributions to Roman culture. For instance, she stated that the word "school" has Latin origins, despite it actually coming from Greek. Lastly, when we requested the free maps of Pompeii included with our ticket, she told us she would give them to us later. When she eventually distributed them, she conspicuously skipped us, and we had to ask again. She handed them out at the end of the tour as if they were a special gift, even though they were a standard inclusion with the entrance ticket. Overall, Enrica is clearly an experienced guide, and her engaging storytelling style makes her tours enjoyable. However, given her reputation, we expected a more professional approach, better organization, and more helpfulness in addressing basic traveler needs. Unfortunately, she fell short of these expectations.

What an amazing experience! Thank you to our wonderful guide! The experience was not totally stroller friendly, so thank you to the people who helped! This is a beautiful place with so much history! I will definitely recommend this tour to friends and family.

Disappointing experience
Had issues with guide questioning at each location IF my service dog would be allowed. At the Domatilla Catacombs, I was refused entry because of my service dog & the Director, Mr. Thomas A. Kallanchira, was extremely rude when I asked why. He told me The Vatican doesn’t allow dogs (pets). I tried to explain about the dog being a service dog & carry her documentation. He turned away & shut a door on us. I looked up The Vatican’s policy on Service Dogs and they are allowed with documentation. I went back inside to show them the Vatican’s policy. Mr. Kallanchira was not there, as I could see. I waited while others purchased gifts & asked who I was told was in charge. He didn’t seem to know & I tried to explain. This man pointed at a letter on the wall in regards to policy & started reading a policy on smoking (FUMAR) & not dogs (CANIN). I let him know we didn’t plan on smoking. Then Mr. Kallanchira came into the room yelled at me, showed a different letter that did say no pets. I tried to show him what I found on The Vatican’s website regarding Service Dogs. He became very upset & walked away slamming a door in my face. Also during this excursion the driver of the hired van, opened the back hatch & let my service dog lose upon arriving. When leaving my dog was put in the back & he didn’t secure the door, so when he started driving the door opened & my dog jumped out looking for me both times. This was very upsetting, so I wanted to sit with my dog. The driver said no. My husband & I made sure she was secure in the back before we would get in & asked the driver to not unload my service dog, so she would not be let lose on the streets of Rome. At our final stop again our guide made a fuss about my service dog being allowed in. So my husband & I stayed on the outskirts of the visit to the church. We left as soon as possible. I contacted Viator while at the Catacombs about what was happening, in regards to my Service dog. They requested a refund for me only (not my husband, which was ok) & this company refused. I do put on the excursions I sign up for I travel with a Service Dog & have not had an issue like this before, including in ROME. Also the photo the company uses is misleading in that at least at Domitilla Catacombs, there are NO BONES, only empty tombs.

For anyone who is a...
For anyone who is a history buff, whether it is military history or not, I highly recommend this tour. Add to that our knowledgeable tour guide, Sam, and I guarantee you will come away from this tour very glad you went. Sam explained the history of what we were seeing in an informative yet entertaining and informal way. It was a long day (~13 hours), leaving from Paris, visiting Utah beach and its museum, having lunch in a local cafe, going to Pointe du Hoc (mind boggling to see what those Rangers did) going to the American cemetery (where you could see Omaha beach), and then returning back to Paris. The tour brought to life what I had read and watched on D-Day.

Engaging and informative tour
Hugo was an excellent tour guide engaging with the group throughout the 2.5hr tour. He share many unique facts about the history of the museum itself along with insights about individual pieces of art. He encouraged us to ask questions and made sure the group stayed together and on time.

Great experience
The team was very prompt from check in to the starting time to the ending time. Our tour guide was Francesca and she was very knowledgeable and personable. I would definitely recommend this experience, especially if you want more information about the Vatican and want to skip the lines. Well worth it during the busy season of the Jubilee.

Good in everything, however, some troubles were in the mic of the guider. The guider was very good about the time, information and other details. I would recommend giving more time in Lugano, because 90 minutes was not enough and too much time in Bellagio. In general I strongly recommend taking this trip

It was ok
It was ok! The tour guide spent a lot of time on the map of the facility outside. It was cold out and a weird way to spend paid time. The first hour was nothing but being outside 40 degrees looking at a map. Everybody was visibly annoyed. This was supposed to be English as well and the guide struggled and sometimes was not understandable. I have been on a tour before years prior and wanted to treat my family to one this time and this one was not as good.

I decided to do a last minute one day trip to Rome from Florence. Since this was a last minute trip, I was a bit worried with booking tickets and figuring out my way around the key spots in Rome. Viator was a life saver for me! I booked a semi private tour. Alessandra our guide was amazing. She was very knowledgeable regarding the museums and the history, as well as all the events that happen in Vatican. She was also very witty and kept us all engaged in the tour. Viator app was very easy to use and I could trust it to do my last minute booking. Clear indication of the schedule, pick and drop off spots, what is included what is not are all very clearly mentioned. I would recommend this for anyone doing their tour planning. Thank you!
