Outstanding!
Oksana did an outstanding job on this tour. Even though Saint Peter‘s Basilica was unfortunately closed (I wish the company would give us tickets (even just entry tickets) in the future to come back in this scenario), she was still able to more than make up for it with so many cool facts and tidbits about the Vatican and Sistine chapel. Her passion, knowledge and command on the subject is impressive, and she’s so affable. She perfectly balanced giving us information without overwhelming us with a barrage of facts. She also paced the tour very well. This was my art history dream come true. When I was talking to other people who have been on similar tours, I realized especially how fantastic Oxana was because she gave us information that they weren’t given that made our experience so much better. Highly, highly recommend!

Great tour
Wonderful experience, however, it would be great if guides went inside the abbey with the group. Though audio guides were ok, it lacked a personal experience.

Basilica in museums are what we are paying for
Don’t think of this as a group of only twenty people. Hmmm groups of twenty, 30-50 or more starting with not just your group, but with many other groups. Extremely crowded with many “groups” is what really happens. No adjustments for lack of access to the attractions originally included. Don’t get me wrong, the things you are exposed to are truly amazing, but with out St. Peter’s basilica, cost should be reduced significantly.

Five Stars!!!
Our tour of the Colosseum with Sylvia was absolutely incredible! From the moment we met, her passion for Roman history shone through. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and had a wonderful way of bringing ancient stories to life. Sylvia answered every question with enthusiasm and made me and my husband feel included. We walked away not just with photos, but with a deeper appreciation for the history and significance of what we saw. Highly recommend her to anyone visiting Rome!

A lot done in one day!
As someone who had previously been to the D-Day beaches of Normandy on a private (smaller group) tour some years ago and found myself on another trip with family this time, I was not expecting this larger group tour to exceed the previous experience. John our guide almost immediately put those concerns to rest. Before we even arrived to the locations, he had already set the stage for WW2 with some fantastic background and commentary leading to stops at the American Cemetery and the beaches of Normandy. Not just satisfied with showing us the locations themselves, John’s commentary brought these places to life with great energy and knowledge at each stop that gave me a new appreciation for this incredibly powerful place, while also giving us free time and space to enjoy and reflect on what took place here on our own. From the American cemetery to the invasion beaches, to the Utah museum, it was an unforgettable experience and I would recommend the City Wonders trip to anyone who is interested in this important part of history and does not have multiple days to spend in this region. John was flexible and accommodating to everyone on the tour as we moved from place to place on a well-timed schedule. Despite just being a day trip from Paris, I felt like we were able to maximize the experience and couldn’t have done that without the guidance of John. Great Trip!

Get out of Rome for a day
Overall, I would really recommend this tour. The places we visited were really neat and very different from Rome. At Orvieto not a lot of stores were open, but that was OK. It was just really need to be in the little town go up and down side streets. We did and we discovered a shop that works in olive oil wood and it seemed like it was a father and son business. The workshop is right in the back. The food at the farm and the winery was great as was the wine. They just didn’t provide enough information about what you were eating and drinking. Then on to the dying city be prepared to walk up a very steep incline definitely worth it. It’s a very small so we finished walking around it with plenty of time.

Everyone should go there at least once.
Iconic place to be, really glad that we made it. Just too many people everywhere. Advance tickets are must and highly recommended, otherwise, will have to wait long in line to get in.

Great Tour for the Price and Knowledgeable Guide
Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of our guide, but she was fantastic. She was so fluent in what she was saying, that it was almost like walking through Vatican in a documentary. She had answers to all the questions we had for her, and gave us tips at the end that helped us get back to specific spots during the tour that we wanted to spend more time in. While I wish the microphone and the earphone reception could be better, I'm sure it's challenging when there are multiple tour groups getting mushed in and it's nearly impossible to stay close to the tour guide at all times. What to expect: You're not the only one who wants to see the Vatican inside out. The guides have to follow the Vatican law/rules, and you can't expect to stand around a room full of (and I mean PACKED) tourists also trying to take pictures as people are pushing to move along. YES. IT'S VERY CROWDED. Expect to be "competing" with the rest of the group to stay close to the tour guide and not end up behind a tall person, who unfortunately blocks your view because there's literally no room for you to step aside. I think the highlight of this tour package is the amount of knowledge your tour guide has on the architecture, history, and not getting lost (it's SO EASY to get lost there). The guide knows important things that need to be told to you, and you'll be GLAD the guide knows what should be covered in the tour and not go into details. Don't worry if you missed a spot you really wanted to take a picture in, or being able to walk through the Holy Door. After the tour, the guide tells you how to get back to all the places you've just walked through, during your free time. I'd leave the rest of the day open if you're a Vatican fanatic, and there's a post office you can spend time in to send postcards from. I would highly recommend this tour for first-time visitors who want to see Vatican for themselves and learn a few things about it. I wouldn't recommend this tour for "experts" who know everything about the Vatican and just needs a ticket to be admitted.

You can trust City Wonders Tours to do it right
When you plan a vacation and decide on a location, especially if you have not been a frequent traveller, selecting a company for local tours is not the easiest thing to do. There are a lot of them out there. Three months before my trip to Rome, I began looking to see what tours were available. A breakfast at the Vatican tour seemed interesting. It was offered by City Wonders, a tour group, frankly, that was not known to me. I did some checking, they seemed dependable with good reviews, the price seemed right, so I booked the tour for early April. It was a seamless process. A numbered voucher was emailed to me immediately, and I could cancel my tour up to twenty-four hours before it started. I was so pleased with the process that I booked a Roman Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum tour, as well as a half day excursion to Ostia Antica. I am so glad that I booked these tours with City Wonders. The instructions as to where to meet were flawless as was the check-in. The tours started on time. Best of all were the tour guides. Marina for the Vatican, Scott for the Colosseum and Catarina for Ostia Antica. All were experienced, very personable, highly skilled and knowledgeable, and each one shared a great deal of pertinent and remarkably interesting information at every opportunity. All their comments were put in context, and they made the sites I was visiting come alive. I couldn’t have been more pleased. I would book a tour with City Wonders again, and I have no hesitancy in giving them my highest recommendation. Five big stars from Canada.
