What an experience it was for my family and I to visit this castle. We arrived just before the sun went down and the place already looked spooky. Inside the castle we found it superb with historic gothic features that made it one of the best castles we have visited. After dark, the place comes alive and you get a real sense of spookiness knowing that Vlad the Impaler once ruled the land. If you go to Romania, you must visit this place.

It's very photogenic in person, and the atmosphere is made even more intense by the surrounding woods. Before the visit, I knew the connection to Dracula was more legend than reality, and in fact, I was confirmed that the connection to Vlad the Impaler is rather weak compared to what's inside, given that Vlad was only one of 11 historical figures to whom the castle's history must be associated throughout its 649 years. However, I must admit that the emphasis is on atmosphere rather than historical accuracy, and this works: even without vampires, the charm is not lacking. Inside, I found the route somewhat labyrinthine, made up of steep stairs, narrow corridors, and rather small rooms, making it very original, as Queen Maria intended during her restoration, which sought to preserve as much of its medieval origins as possible. On the one hand, this adds to the mystery of the place; on the other, especially with so many people, the visit can feel a bit rushed, although fortunately I entered at a time when there was no crowd inside. Unfortunately, I do not recommend the tour for those with mobility issues: there are numerous stairs and not always easy. The period furnishings, armor, and historical objects are interesting, as per Queen Maria of Romania's taste, brighter and more elegant, almost contrasting with the castle's dark imagery. Along the way, you can stop to look out from the panoramic terraces, which offer truly splendid views of the Transylvanian forests, which, combined with the snow and the wooded setting, make the whole experience truly unique. When purchasing your entrance tickets, you can decide whether to take a full tour or just explore the castle's rooms. I opted for the full tour, which also includes a viewing of ancient torture instruments (which I highly recommend, as they're well-preserved) and the elevator-accessible basement, which, even though it's a simple, animated underground corridor, is charming. In conclusion, I wouldn't call it "the real Dracula's Castle," but it's still a worthwhile stop, especially for the atmosphere, the view, and its symbolic value. I'd recommend it to those who love evocative places and legends, rather than to those looking for an in-depth historical museum. I think an enchanting place like Transylvania owes a lot to the writer Bram Stoker, because he inspired his fellow citizens to make Bran Castle one of the most iconic symbols of Romania in the world. Personally, it's a place that left a very strong impression on me and perfectly captures the imagination of Transylvania. I hope to return. Tuttavia, devo ammettere che si punta molto sull’atmosfera più che sulla precisione storica, e questo funziona: anche senza vampiri, il fascino non manca. All’interno ho trovato un percorso un po’ labirintico, fatto di scale ripide, corridoi stretti e stanze piuttosto piccole cosa che lo rende molto originale come da volontà delle Regina Maria nel restauro che ha cercato di lasciare il più possibile l'origine medievale . Da un lato questo contribuisce al mistero del luogo, dall’altro, soprattutto con tanta gente, la visita può risultare un po’ frettolosa, anche se con mia grande fortuna sono entrato in un momento dove non c'era affluenza al Suo interno. Purtroppo sconsiglio il percorso a chi ha difficoltà motorie: le scale sono numerose e non sempre agevoli.. Gli arredi d’epoca, le armature e gli oggetti storici sono interessanti, come da gusto della regina Maria di Romania, più luminosi ed eleganti, quasi in contrasto con l’immaginario cupo del castello. Attraverso il percorso ci si può fermare affacciandosi dalle terrazze panoramiche, da cui si gode una vista davvero splendida sui boschi della Transilvania, che insieme alla neve e il contesto boschivo rendono il tutto di grande singolarità . Quando si fanno i biglietti di ingresso si può decidere se fare un tour integrale e/o dedicato solo alle stanze del castello, io ho optato per la versione full alla quale si aggiunge un percorso a visione di antichi strumenti di tortura( che nel contesto consiglio vivamente, perchè ben mantenuti) e il sotterraneo accessibile attraverso ascensore che anche se è un semplice corridoio animato nel sottosuolo , è simpatico . In conclusione, non lo definirei “il vero castello di Dracula”, ma resta comunque una tappa che merita, soprattutto per l’atmosfera, il panorama e il valore simbolico che ha. È una visita che consiglierei a chi ama i luoghi suggestivi e le leggende, più che a chi cerca un museo storico approfondito. Penso che un posto incantevole come la Transilvania deve molto allo scrittore Bram Stoker, perchè ha dato spunto ai suoi concittadini di poter far diventare il catello di bran tra i simboli più rappresentativi dell'intera Romania nel Mondo.
