Full of history and folklore. Steep entrance to get in but worth it. The walk around the Castle was full of stories and insights to how Vlad the impaler and his ancestors lived.

My Intrepid tour group just finished a tour at Bran Castle with a talented guide called Smaranda. I am an experieced guide in Sydney and thoroughly enjoyed her tour. She was welcoming, speech was clear and easily heard, gracefully answered questions, gave clear directions as we moved through the castle, knowlegable and had a wonderful sense of humour. Totally skippable. Worst attraction in Transylvania Region. There is nothing special. Overpriced and nothing to see. An absolute tourist trap. Go to Corvin if you can for a real castle experience in half price.

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! 🧛‍♂️ If you arrive at Bran Castle expecting Dracula, mystery, dark legends and a little bit of Gothic atmosphere, prepare to meet the real horror: your €20 entrance fee disappearing before your eyes. The banners outside do a fantastic job of building up the Legend of Dracula. The expectations go higher and higher as you approach the castle. You enter and the disappointment begins…. Room after room is filled with furniture and exhibits from the time of Romania’s kings and queens. Interesting, perhaps, if you’re specifically interested in royal history — but Dracula? Almost nowhere to be found. There is basically one small room dedicated to Vlad the Impaler, and that’s about it. But don’t worry, the Dracula experience doesn’t end there! You can pay extra to visit the supposedly “torture chamber.” Because apparently the €20 entrance fee wasn’t enough to unlock the full medieval experience! And then, in the castle courtyard, there’s another paid attraction where you can enter a tunnel… only to discover multimedia screens inside. Because nothing says medieval Transylvania quite like paying extra to watch screens!!! By the end, you start wondering whether you visited Dracula’s castle or simply Dracula’s business model. The biggest problem isn’t that the castle has little to do with the Dracula legend — it’s the enormous gap between the hype created before the visit and what you actually get once you’re inside. For around €20 per person, I would honestly recommend to save your money and time. If you’re in the area, visit Peleș Castle in Sinaia and the Sinaia Monastery instead. You may leave with much better memories — and with the feeling that your wallet survived the day. Bran Castle: excellent marketing, disappointing experience. Dracula might be fictional, but the tourist trap is very real. 🧛‍♂️💸
