Great Food, Mixed Experience The food on this tour was exceptional — outstanding quantity, quality, and variety. We enjoyed generous portions of delicious local specialties. However, finding the meeting spot was very difficult. The instructions pointed to a mural that had been taken down with no clear alternative. Our guide Mae was friendly and knowledgeable, but she seemed awkward and not very engaging. She didn’t encourage group introductions, so we felt disconnected and noticed other guides were much more lively. She’s nice and knows her material, but may be better suited to a different role. Hoping the company can provide support without this affecting her job. The food made it worthwhile, but better logistics and energy would improve it.

Yummy Kyoto food tour!

Our tour guide was Lin and we had a wonderful time. She took us around Kyoto and besides taking us to the unique and authentic shops of Kyoto for all our special treats, spices and sweets, she gave us some cultural insights of Kyoto. We ended our night with a wonderful meal and great company and conversation. Lin was a delight!

Must do in Kyoto

We took the Kyoto Pontocho Walking Tour. Lin was a gem of a guide and we loved every minute of the experience. We took tours from other operators while in Japan and Arigato is the way to go. Lin explained the culture, history, had great stories and vignettes to share, and most of all, the food she picked was amazing!

Food Tour with Kids (AND Alexandra!)

I am so happy someone suggested I book a food tour in Shibuya! I am even happier I did it with Alexandra and through Arigato Food Tours. Not only did I get to try different types of food (from different regions), the tour had a great structure and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. From telling us about food origin, to picking picking out local landmarks, to letting me in on some of the "locals" questions I've had here it was a game changing 3 hours (actually more- she went above and beyond). It was also extremely family friendly and Alex was patient with my kids (who are both sassy and slow walkers). Arigato! Arianna & Co

Great intro to tokyo

We did this tour when we landed in Tokyo as a way to get an introduction to the city and also stay awake and avoid jet lag. Charlotte was a wonderful host: it felt like having a friend show you around their neighborhood with lots of yummy food spots. It was perfect!

We had such a fun evening with Justin exploring the Shimbashi area! He was entertaining and gave us insights and tips about Japanese culture and food. He took us to places we would have not found ourselves. He was a thoughtful and attentive host. This Shimbashi food tour is highly recommended.

Amazing Foodtour!

We were absolutely thrilled with the Shibuya food tour with Alex. We discovered so many different places and restaurants that we never would have found on our own. The food was incredibly varied and delicious. And Alex as a guide was simply fantastic! He shared a wealth of background information with us about Japan and food, and he's just a great and interesting guy who's easy to talk to. We highly recommend this tour to everyone!

Our favorite activity of our Japan trip

My husband and I took the Shimbashi Hidden Gem food tour with guide Hannah G in May 2026. This was honestly our favorite activity of our entire trip. The Shimbashi tour is unique because it takes place in the evening in an area of Tokyo where tourists don't frequent because it's a business and office work area. By chance, the other tour participants did not show up so it was just the two of us and the guide. I am a vegetarian and Hannah was so incredibly helpful in accommodating me while also not skimping on feeding my meat eater husband. She asked us what we were interested in and what foods we had been wanting to try on the trip and did her best to help us make that happen! We ate a variety of different things at many places and even had a sake tasting. My favorite was a small rotating sushi bar that was full of locals and chefs - a place I would have never had the courage or thought to go in myself. She was so knowledgeable and you could tell really cares about Japanese culture and all of the fun and interesting stories and facts she shared with us. We learned so much from her - not just about food but about Japanese folklore, lifestyle, work culture, family life, sake, and so much more. We added the extra karaoke session afterward and had a blast. I cannot recommend this tour enough! Hannah, if you are reading this, thank you!! We are so appreciative of our unforgettable experience and we had the best time.

Wonderful intro to the various food and drink in Shinjuku

We had a wonderfully delicious and informative 3.5 hour tour with our guide, Adele, who provided us with all sorts of info that served us well for the rest of our trip (such as useful phrases to say specifically in a restaurant setting, chopsticks do's and don'ts) and gave us alot of background and history of the various streets within the Shinjuku district. We stopped at 4 places in all to experience yakitori, izakaya, ramen and cocktails. We highly recommend this tour!

Yum!!!

This ended up being one of our favourite experiences in Osaka.Request Tomo if you can :) he was just the best!! I originally booked it for myself, thinking my two younger kids would just tag along and tolerate it. Instead, Tomo really made an effort to include them in the conversations, stories, and food, catering to our level of food comfort. Kids were engaged the whole time, which honestly surprised me. The food was fantastic. I usually try to book a food tour at the beginning of a trip so I can figure out what local dishes I like and spend the rest of the vacation ordering them. Unfortunately, I had this one booked for the end of our two weeks in Japan, I honestly wish we had done this on day one. It was so tasty, and átomo found dishes for both my lucky kids and my adventurous self. What really stood out were all the stories and little bits of history he shared as we walked around. It was like exploring Osaka with a knowledgeable local who genuinely loves the city. My kids enjoyed the stories so much that they wanted to write some of them down in their travel journals afterward. Since it ended up being just the three of us on the tour, it felt very personal and relaxed, almost like being shown around by a friend. We laughed a lot, ate incredibly well, and learned so much about Dotonbori. Highly recommend

Paul was a great guide with in-depth knowledge of Tokyo and the food. He was friendly and amenable to questions about Tokyo, Japanese culture, history and the food. He was very helpful in all respects. Would recommend Arigato tours.

Best way to experience Japan!

We did an Arigato Food Tour on our first night in Japan and loved it so much, so we booked another! Our second tour was with Ethan and it was such a great experience. We went on our last night in Japan and tried foods that we hadn't tried yet and explored a new neighborhood. Highly recommend!
