An enjoyable corner of Tokyo
Our three-hour daytime food tour of Sugamo was much more than a simple tasting experience. We sampled a wonderful variety of dishes from local shops, beginning with dorayaki—two light pancakes filled with red bean paste and a slice of butter—served warm alongside brown tea. The addition of local butter is Sugamo’s own twist on this classic Japanese sweet. Throughout the tour, we tried rice crackers, traditional sweets, and yet another style of dorayaki. Our lunch stop featured soba noodles in a rich duck broth. Trevor, our guide was knowledgeable and engaging, seamlessly blending history, food culture, and local stories. We visited two shrines and chatted with several residents, who greeted us with smiles and genuine curiosity. These small interactions added a warm, personal touch to our time in this charming corner of Tokyo.

Arigato Food Tour – Asakusa with Ema
Our evening in Asakusa with Ema was honestly one of the highlights of our Tokyo trip. He has such a sweet and calming presence, and he made sure the entire experience felt slow, enjoyable, and perfectly paced. We tasted so many delicious dishes, each one better than the last, and his recommendations were absolutely spot-on. It felt less like a tour and more like walking around with a friend who truly knows and loves the area. Thank you, Ema, for such a memorable and heartwarming night in Asakusa. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide!

Ethan was our guide for this incredible tour. He was engaging, knowledgeable, and was an all around great guide. The food and beverage selections were unique and of very good quality. We had a great time and enjoyed seeing the sights as we traveled from restaurant to restaurant. We highly recommend this tour.

Guide "Morten" led an excellent food tour, with a great knowledge of Japanese history. There was fantastic food variety, and we were happily stuffed. Recommend having the largest meal first instead of last.

Tasty wanderings!
We really enjoyed our tour with Natsumi! We learned a lot about the history of the area, the food culture of Osaka and dishes that were Natsumi’s personal favorites. The knife stop was really educational and we also loved learning about the crazy food signs that are an Osaka trademark.

Excellent guide and tour!
Food tours are one of the favorite experiences when visiting a new country and our tour with Alex was excellent. I took 3 of my kids and we all loved it, including one picky eater. It was my daighter’s 13th birthday and Alex even surprised us at one restaurant with singing from the lively staff with singing and a dessert. Can’t say enough about how great this tour was!

An excellent relaxed tour
We were joined by a lovely couple, Bruce and Kayleigh, from the States on this tour. The tour took us around 4-5 different food places, with our starters and main meal being served in different places. We also visited a local knife shop which was interesting and made all the better because there was no hard selling by the lovely person who gave us the demo of the excellent knives. We had two guides Ike and Tomo who were knowledgeable and really friendly. By the end of the tour we were just eating, drinking and chatting

Fun and enlightening
Jane was an excellent guide, sharing her knowledge of different Japanese cuisines with infectious enthusiasm. Janes rapport with the various restaurants meant we received an experience more akin to popular regulars than tourists. The food was superb and plentiful, so we'd recommend skipping lunch beforehand and learning the phrase gochisou sama deshita!

A great glimpse into the Osaka food scene
We heard that Osaka was the food capital of Japan, and it did not disappoint on the tour led by our guide Asli. She led us through the area around the Dotonbori to four different restaurants that offered different styles of food for which Osaka is known. Asli also showed us the famed view of the neon signs, including the Gilco Running Man, from the Ebisu Bridge. While walking through the Chuo Ward, she explained the different types of restaurant signs and how to decode what they mean. This was a great and easy way to dive into Osaka on our first day.

I recently joined a night street food tour in Osaka with Arigato Japan Food Tours, and it was truly one of the highlights of my time in Japan. He took me to hidden gems and authentic street food spots that I would never have found on my own, explaining the history and stories behind each dish and the neighbourhoods we explored. Every stop felt carefully chosen and full of character. The pace was relaxed, the food was delicious (especially the takoyaki and kushikatsu!), and the overall atmosphere was warm and engaging. It felt less like a formal tour and more like discovering Osaka with a local friend who truly loves what he does. If you’re in Osaka and want to experience its legendary street food scene in a meaningful way, I highly recommend Arigato Japan Food Tours — and if you’re lucky enough to have Ike as your guide, you’re in for a memorable evening.

Great food and sights!
This tour was very fun! The Tsukiji market had a lot of great and tasty options, the weather was perfect for an outside picnic, and the temple we also visited was so gorgeous. Jane was our tour guide and did an amazing job leading the experience!
