Minimally interesting
I've been on walking ghost tours in other cities like Savannah and have found them to be interesting, engaging, and a fun perspective on a city. This was none of that. We were out for over 2.5 hours but only made a handful of stops. At most of those stops the guide talked for overly-extended lengths about events at locations no where near where we were standing. Most of what he talked about was general history with a statement or two thrown in like "people say there is a high suicide rate in this building" and the like. While walking around the city at night was beautiful, you can do that yourself for a lot less money. Used a Groupon with a friend for the tour, so it was cheaper, but still not worth it.
Looking for something unusual
Love ghost stories and love history. Had previously done a Mob tour and loved it. Looked forward to this trip. The bus was first class. We left promptly at 8 pm. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. His approach was a little clinical and descriptive but hardly entertaining. I learned somethings and we did wander around a few sites. Took some neat pictures. It wasn't bad but also not great. The whole trip was just less than 3 hours. By that time I was ready for it to be over.
Not a Ghost Walk tour...more of a historical tour
The tour was a little disappointing because my wife and I 4were expecting something a little different. We did the walking tour. First off the group had 40 people which seemed awfully large for one guide. Maybe they should have had a second guide and split the group. Regardless, the guide did a great job trying to make sure everyone can hear him. My wife and I were expecting to see some haunted locations, but it was more a tour to some of the historical locations within the downtown. It was mentioned that there is another tour where they take you to some of the haunted locations to wonder around. If you are interested in that, I suggest you call and make sure you are booking the proper tour. We did have a good time even though the website description made it sound much more interesting that it was. Bottom line. If you are looking for a ghost walking tour, I would suggest you look elsewhere. If you want a historical tour of some of the Chicago disasters, you may just enjoy yourself on this tour. It took about three hours.
Interesting tour
We went on the Dead And Undead Walking tour and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative about the history of Chicago. It would've been better as a bus or trolley tour as there's a lot of ground to cover between stops.
AWESOME GHOST TOUR!!!
I was in town last weekend for business, so some of my family members met my wife, daughter and I downtown for the tour....WELL WORTH IT!!! No ghosts actually jumped out of the shadows, but it was amazing...and somewhat spooky. I lived there most of my life, but never heard most of the stories that our guide shared; Hull House, Iroquois Theater, the Lakeland disaster, the Couch crypt, etc...The tour guide was amazing, with so many stories that I'd never heard before. And, YES you do get to walk around alot of these places, and drive in style on a nice tour bus
Just ok
We took off from the congress hotel which I had never heard of but gave me a weird feeling as soon as I walked in. The tour was about 2 hours and we were supposed to have a pub stop but didnt. We were let out a few times to explore but only for 5 minutes. Towards the end no one wanted to get off the bus anymore. It was ok but I was kind of expecting a little more.
Fun History Filled Tour
Had a really great 10pm tour the weekend of Halloween. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable. We learned a lot about Chicago History and had plenty of opportunities to get out and view the sites that were talked about. Would definitely recommend to others.
Lame tour boring
Bus was late to pick up and start tour. P.A. system on bus was not clear guide walked up aisle speaking loud and telling really lame jokes, while stretching out stories since we were stuck in traffic. Also first rows of seats wet from a drippy air conditioning and we had to yell to driver to turn off radio. Three gals even bailed out when we arrived at third stop. Tour guide seemed like aspiring actor entertaining only himself, making obscure movie allusions. We are bailing out, at fourth stop and another fire story.
A cheesy way to see the city
As local Chicagoans, we went in understanding that the tour would be just a bit of fun and a neat way to explore our city. Unfortunately, the tour was actually a bit painful. We went on Saturday, October 01. The guide tried hard, however he overdid the humor and often would go off on a tangent that took away from the story he was initially sharing. It was a mix of "haunted" locations and strange sites in Chicago. Unfortunately, we saw more empty lots with fences that used to be historic sites than anything really interesting. The Jane Adams house would have been really cool to see, however we could not go inside so we just mulled around outside with people using their ghost detector apps. Several people on our tour were complaining how bad it was, considering it was almost 3 hours and one family got off early. I think there could be a way to make this tour more interactive and interesting. Use the screens in the bus to show old video clips or tales, figure out locations where people could go inside, etc.

Meh...
Let's be honest, Chicago is a hard place to tour since it's so big. It doesn't have a central historical district like say Savannah or New Orleans. The a/c bus was awesome for August. Dave shared a lot of good history, but stops were limited, and he wasn't dressed appropriately. One stop behind the Oriental was cancelled because of a festival, but nothing was planned as a substitute. Loved the history, but the haunt was a downer.
Expected More
After finding this tour online and reading reviews I was a little dssappointed in the actual tour. Our guide was awesome, very knowledgable, and friendly. The tour was very informative about the history of Chicago. The description of the tour on the website made it seem a little more ghostly. I enjoyed it just expected more.
Saw parts of Chicago I'd never seen
We enjoyed this tour with Dave. We traveled to parts of Chicago that we had never seen. The tour bus was comfortable. The trip last 2.5 hours. We got out of the bus at several stops to explore. The best part for me was exploring the mausoleum in Lincoln park in the dark. Our tour guide, Dave, was entertaining but I wish he had been a better storyteller. Ghost tours are all about the storytelling and Dave was more about reiterating facts. Not a criticism...just a personal preference.

The tour was fine 4 stars but I would never book anything through Vivator again 0 stars ..never received any confirmation until a few hours before the tour and never received responses to emails...had to call the tour operator directly...they advised this was common problem for Vivator plus I ended up paying 21 more for Viator's service vs booking direct! Not sure how you guys stay in business!

Wonderful tour, this was not a gimmicky scary tour but a tour around haunted sites in Chicago and our guide I have forgotten his name was an excellent narrator of the history.

Private Tour with Dave
Because we could not get to a Saturday group "Devil in the White City" tour, we were fortunate to be able to arrange a private 3-hour tour. It was absolutely wonderful. We got to ALL the locations of the book and Dave seems to know everything about this era of Chicago history. Highly recommended !
The Chicago Gothic Tour
A most enjoyable bus tour. A nice way to spend the afternoon. Normally the tour starts at the nostalgic Congress Hotel, but due to a function there, we departed from the Rock n Roll McDonalds. Both nice places to visit while in Chicago. The tour guide, Clarence Goodman, filled the afternoon with interesting stories and tidbits of lore, legend and a tad of the paranormal, thrown in with some good ol' humor, of Chicago that kept our attention on the tour. There is a stop for a "refreshment" on the tour. You can feel a bit of something there that you would say has a paranormal feeling there. There are other tours offered which I intend to take in the future. This was a day trip for me to Chicago from Milwaukee. For those that are in Wisconsin and wish to make a day trip there for the tour and other activities, Amtrak is offering for, 2016, only on Saturday nights in the summer until September 3rd, an 11 p.m. return trip north, from Chicago to Milwaukee on the Hiawatha line.
Disppointing
My husband and I took the 10pm tour on Halloween night while visiting the city, and were excited to see some great places. The bus had a problem with the PA system and our guide was apparently feeling under the weather, which he told us repeatedly. While we saw some interesting sites, it really didn't live up to our expectations. I expected a more immersive experience, and to see more sites (we went maybe 4 places in our 2 hour tour). I almost always tip tour guides, but we skipped it for this because the experience was so poor.
Don't waste your time or money
It's a busy time of year for the bus tours in Chicago, I understand that. This company hasn't put any thought into organizing their procedures. People were very upset as they were shuffled back and forth between different buses trying to find which bus they were on. We finally started the tour 15 minutes late. Our guide was a bit shook up by the angry people on the bus. As he calmed down and started the tour he stumbled on his words, couldn't remember dates, ended most of his sentences with "and other stuff". This tour is a far cry from Richard Crowe's haunted tour! They need to organize their methods and hire a more articulate crew. Not scary or informative, just sad...
