Classic Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu

We had a great time and really enjoyed the trail - it was challenging in parts but not too much so. The porters and chefs are amazing. The food is delicious and plentiful and everything is set up at camp by the time you arrive. The sleeping bags were really thick so we were never cold at night in September. However, aside from tips if wanted, please bring snacks for the porters as they work so hard. Whilst we were told they’re fed well, locals told me otherwise (not specific to Alpaca) and anytime I offered them any food they took it readily and seemed very grateful.

The experience was absolutely wonderful. The porters, chefs and our second guide couldn’t have been more helpful or worked any harder. The food was amazing. The tents, sleeping bags, pillows and air mattresses were very comfortable. The weather and views were outstanding. Unfortunately our head guide would rather have been any where else other than hiking the Inca Trail with us but we didn’t let it bother us - he wasn’t with us most of the time anyway!

We started with trepidation but were soon put at ease by the guides with their easy chat and gentle encouragement. Yes it is a tough hike and well worth reading up on what you will encounter including early starts and long days. But the scenery and sights make it worth while. There were 16 of us that set out. We did not know anyone else in the group but by the end we were a solid group of friends who had enjoyed the hike and challenges together, Which unfortunately and unusually included a significant amount of rain. Camping was made easy by the porters who never ceased to amaze by the loads they carried and the camp site set up before we arrived each evening. The chef created meals in the middle of nowhere which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Our guides, Fletcher head guide, was full of enthusiasm and passionate to relay his knowledge of the people, buildings and landscape we were visiting and travelling through. Jefferson and Marco assisted by ensuring everyone was safe, positive chats and high fives. A wonderful experience topped off by the visit to Machu Picchu. Thank you guys a great trip enhanced by your enthusiasm that all things would be good. Would I do it again? At 74 probably not, but I would like to think I would.

We have experienced fantastic 4D/3N Inca trail with Alpaca Expeditions. We were group of 15 people and our guides Elisban and William as well as the whole group of 25 porters (including one woman) and chef provided state of the art services throughout the whole 4-day trek. It was top notch organisation since pick-up from the hotel till drop off in next hotel. Inca trail is demanding (mainly because of endless stairs up and down), but also awarding once in a life experience, which I can recommend to everybody with a reasonable fitness level. Arriving to Machu Picchu on Day 4 through Sun gate delivers breathtaking and awarding feelings. We had a diverse group of hikers - mixture of slower and faster ones. Elisban with William were able to manage it in a great way - let faster ones go to agreed meeting point, while helping the slower ones. Their organisation skills with customer focus were outstanding. We are not a classical backpackers, so 3 nights in a tent was quite a new experience for us, however I have to say that Alpaca made it really easy for us - big comfortable tents, quality air mattress, great catering considering the rough conditions and they also provided us warm water with towel every evening to clean up a little bit the body. Overall it was a great experience, authentic and unique combination of amazing nature and history of Inca sites. Overnight stay in tents is simply part of this unique and authentic experience. I can fully recommend this 4-day trek as well as Alpaca Expeditions as tour operator. Big kudos to Elisban and William! You have made this great experience for us!

Had an amazing time on this 4 day trek. Life changing. The porters are amazing. Everything set up every day. Food was incredible. Our guide Juan was the best. Shared so much knowledge. Made sure we were taken care of every day. I don’t even have the words to describe this experience or the views. But absolutely book this trip!
