Once in a lifetime experience!

Carlos the Mountain King was knowledgeable, passionate about his culture and ancestry, outgoing and funny, and also compassionate. The food was incredible, we always had safe drinking water available, and our duffle bags were transported safely. The glamping locations were beautiful, but watch out for spiders in the Jungle Domes! Machu Picchu of course was spectacular.

Great 5-day Salkantay Trek with Salkantay Trekking company.

Besides the beautiful views and being able to walk through an ancient civilization and culture, the best part of our experience was our guide Marco Centeno. He really shared his passion for his job and for the life and culture he grew up in. Being a local himself, this gave him an excellent opportunity to share his love for the Andean people and especially the Incan and pre-Incan civilizations. He was well versed in the history of Machu Picchu and also in the vegetation that was surrounding us daily. But above all, he was a caring person with a very happy spirit. He pushed us when we needed to move but also let us rest when it was needed. The only real negative experience was the logistics involving the return trip home. We boarded our train on time and for whatever reason, when we got off the train, we were rushing in what seemed like a frantic pace to get to our van home. The frustrating and disappointing part was that despite being tired from days prior, our last walk together was an unnecessary, crazy rush only to arrive to a parked van that was not ready to move. The driver was parked in an area where other vehicles had parked to enjoy some local festivities. Due to the delay, when did not arrive to Cusco until around 9:30 pm. This created stress and problems for some of us. This was quite irritating and reflected poorly on Salkantay management, not our guide, who was quite apologetic. For me, Marco was the highlight of the trip. If I returned to this again, I would demand getting Marco as my guide. Muchas gracias Marco Centeno!! Hakuchis!!

Incredible Experience!

The ground covered on this trek is the most beautiful nature I’ve ever experienced. Additionally, Jesus was an outstanding guide and all of the Salkantay crew was tremendously organized. This was my favorite traveling experience I’ve ever done.
