The tidal phenomenon of Chalkida, observed in the famous Evripos Channel, is a very rare phenomenon of a change of direction in the flow of the sea currents. This phenomenon has provoked the admiration and interest of humans from ancient times, not only from an astronomical and geophysical perspective but also a philosophical one. Thanks to its strategic geographic position, the city has remained a crossroad of cultures and ideas over the centuries, an apple of discord for many foreign conquerors. Today the cosmopolitan city of Chalkida, the administrative and commercial centre of the island built on both sides of Evripos straits, is a popular destination among Athenians for short breaks away from the hustle and bustle of the capital city. Thanks to its impressive ultra-modern cable bridge, the access to the city has now become easier and quicker. It provides a variety of restaurants to enjoy your lunch by the sea.

Greatest trip ever

The tour was very interesting but what made it special was our Guide/Driver. He was entertaining, very knowledgeable, and a good driver. He also was very accommodating to our needs. He was willing to discuss is personnel experiences and observations making the trip more interesting. We learned a great deal about Greece. I also left I hat in his car and he brought it bake to our Hotel when he found it. It was by far our best Viator experience and he have never had a complaint.

The Classical City of Thebes

While we were on a two-week group trip with Globus to take us to Athens, Corinth, Delphi, and Olympia, we also wanted to see Sparta and Thebes. We added two days onto our vacation and then contracted with Viator for separate trips to the last two cities. Our driver, George Lalos, picked us up at our hotel and drove us to Thebes. He was very friendly and accommodating during our time with him. The relatively archaeological museum was very nice and we visited the small amount of remaining ruins from the ancient city to include the Elektra Gate. We also visited the Karababa Castle site. Afterward, we all had lunch together at a restaurant in Chalkida. Thebes is only about 54 miles northwest of Athens. The total amount of time we spent on this excursion was 6.5 hours.
