St Peter’s Tomb | Vatican Grottoes in Vatican City | Private Tours in Rome Or crypt, the only part of the Basilica of Constantine still in existence. This is very interesting as it contains many important tombs of Kings, popes, and precious relics of the primitive Church, which narrate in monumental characters the history of twelve centuries of Christianity. Down there are visible also the tombs of the last Popes. The Bronze Canopy of St. Peter’s Basilica The bronze Canopy covers the tomb of the Apostle and the confession (I). It is the work of Bernini, executed by the artist for Pope Urban VIII, who inaugurated it in 1633. Confession St Peter’s Tomb | The present Confession, enlarged and decorated by Pope Paul V, after a design of Maderno, is surrounded by a balustrade of fine marble and by lamps, burning night and day, before the tomb of the Apostle. A double flight of steps leads down to the confession, which shines with the greatest variety of marble.

Great tour of the Basilica, tombs and Dome climb.

Valentin was a fabulous guide. He was knowledgeable and well spoken. He did a great job and made sure all could hear him or see the photos in his binder. There were very long lines on May 2nd but he helped us make the best of it.

sabrina is the best tour guide for this!

Our tour of St. Peter’s Basilica with our guide Sabrina was truly one of the highlights of our time in Rome. From the moment we stepped into the basilica, her passion and deep knowledge brought every detail to life—from the grandeur of the dome to the intricate mosaics and the powerful history behind each chapel. Sabrina had a way of explaining things that felt both informative and engaging, making it easy to appreciate not just the beauty, but also the meaning behind this iconic place. She guided us seamlessly through the crowds, pointing out hidden gems we would have otherwise missed, and gave us time to pause and take in the awe-inspiring atmosphere. Her storytelling made the experience feel personal and memorable, turning what could have been just another tour into something truly special. Highly recommend experiencing St. Peter’s Basilica with a guide like Sabrina—it adds so much depth and appreciation to an already breathtaking site.
