Itinerary
Pass by: Located in Gros, this lively local square will be your first glimpse of everyday life in San Sebastián. Framed by the Church of San Ignacio, bars, and shops, families gather here, just steps from our nearby first tasting stop.
Step into a welcoming family-run bar devoted to traditional Basque flavors. Savor their signature pintxo: grilled mushrooms with rich foie gras and creamy alioli on crusty bread, perfectly paired with a refreshing zurito, the locals’ favorite small draft beer.
Discover a charming neighborhood wine shop in the heart of Gros, known for its local organic wines and beers. Here, enjoy a refreshing non-alcoholic mosto spritzer, build your own Gilda, and taste Gazta Zaharra, a tangy shepherds’ cheese made from leftover Idiazabal chese.
Pass by: Between the Hotel Maria Cristina and Teatro Victoria Eugenia, discover San Sebastián’s Belle Époque legacy. Nearby, spot the Kursaal and Zurriola Bridge, linking Gros to downtown with river views and surfers heading out to the waves.
This true Donosti institution was founded by four siblings to create a neighborhood bar rooted in quality, warm service, and community spirit. Pick any pintxo that catches your eye and pair it with red wine, tinto de verano, or a classic kalimotxo for a genuine local experience.
Pass by: La Bretxa Square, named after a breach made by Napoleon’s troops during the 1800s siege, is now a bustling hub where locals shop for fresh fish, meats, and produce, a lively glimpse into everyday Basque life in the city center.
Set on the iconic 31 de Agosto Street, one of the oldest streets in San Sebastián, this stop brings you to a beloved local bar that feels like a doorway into the city’s past. Bernardo, its 70-year-old owner, greets visitors with a warm smile and a lifetime of devotion to Basque cuisine. Here you’ll enjoy a special off-the-menu tasting of tender grilled squid with potatoes pintxo, beautifully paired with a glass of Txakoli, a dry white wine from the Basque coast.
Get ready for an authentic Basque cider house experience in the Old Town. You'll taste juicy txuleta steak with salted padrón peppers and catch cider poured straight from the barrel in the traditional txotx ritual!
For a sweet finale, we'll visit the city's oldest pastry shop, open since 1886. Here, you'll taste the original recipe of the iconic pantxineta: a flaky puff pastry filled with rich pastry cream and toasted almonds. You'll take it to go and savor it on the boulevard as the perfect end to your tour.

Traveler reviews
Don't even hesitate - book this tour!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience on this food tour! Our guide Iri (accompanied by a tour guide in training Iker) was incredibly engaging and knowledgeable about the Basque region in general. We were fortunate enough to just have the tour with just the two of us so it was really nice. All the foods and drinks we sampled were incredible. We also had a great visit with the owner of Piripi wine store (Panos), who focuses on organic wines and other beverages. We absolutely believe it was worth every penny we spent on this tour, highly recommended!
My 3rd Eating Europe Tour—and quite possibly the best one yet!
If you want to truly "unlock" the magic of San Sebastián, you have to book this tour. This was my third time using Eating Europe across different cities, and they continue to set the gold standard for food experiences.I honestly aren't a big "tour person," but this didn't feel like one at all. Instead of a scripted walk, it provided deep insights into the food culture that I never would have found in a guidebook. Our guide, Iri, was absolutely amazing. It was so clear that she knows the local people and is a respected part of the community; seeing her interact with the bar owners made the whole experience feel so authentic. Before the tour, the Pintxos bars felt a little intimidating, but Iri took the time to explain the "why" and the "how" behind everything we had. Understanding the social importance of the "txikiteo" (the local bar crawl) and how to navigate the bars like a local was invaluable. I can’t wait to return to San Sebastián and book even more time with this team. If you’re on the fence, just do it—it was the absolute highlight of my trip!
San Sebastian Beyond Pintxos Food Tour
San Sebastian Beyond Pintxos food tour led by Iri was an excellent experience with a great tour guide and lovely group of companions. We visited various establishments and had a brilliant range of gastronomic delights nicely spaced out. We also visited a local natural wine supplier A variety of local drinks were on offer also and all the foods were specialities of the Basque region Would recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Sebastian Little tip though .....don't eat for a while beforehand

A Must Tour When Visiting San Sebastián
Tour full of food, drinks and hosting all done by our fabulous guide, Iri. We turned up for our tour and met up with Iri as planned. When she introduced herself we were surprised that we were the only two people on the tour but rather the tour operator cancelling, Iri spent the next 3 hours introducing us to delicious dishes and drinks in wonderful venues that we would never have discovered on our own. Iri was passionate and educated on Basque culture and made us feel totally welcome. She even took the time to follow up sending us details of the tour and other recommendations. A must tour for everyone.
