Private World War I Day Trip from Colmar
Set out from Colmar on a full‑day private tour that traces the dramatic World War I history of Alsace amid the peaceful scenery of the Vosges mountains. Travelling with a knowledgeable local guide, you visit major battlefields and memorials such as Hartmannswillerkopf and the Linge Memorial Museum, where stories of courage and sacrifice come vividly to life.

Scenic Route des Crêtes and Hartmannswillerkopf

Alex was the most experienced, knowledgeable, and chilled tour guide of all the 5 tour guides we experienced. We learned a lot from him about the culture, history, and geology of the region. He also provided great context to understand the regions' wines. This tour to Cassis and the calanques was beautiful and would get a 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that this expensive tour did not include lunch. The wine tasting was good but I had better in Bordeaux and it included lunch.

Matt was an awesome tour guide. His passion for D-day made the experience that much better. He was very knowledgeable. Even my children were glued to his every word. Great experience!

Additional information

This tour is ideal for travellers with a strong interest in World War I, military history or family remembrance, who want to stand on original battlefields rather than only visit museums. It suits adults, couples, families with older teenagers and small groups who appreciate thoughtful storytelling, time for reflection and the combination of history with powerful mountain scenery.

It is less suited to visitors seeking a light, purely scenic outing or those who prefer to avoid emotionally challenging sites and uneven walking terrain.
