Sarlat Market Day Gourmet Tour
Join a private gourmet walking tour of Sarlat‑la‑Canéda on lively market day, the best moment to experience the town’s legendary Périgord gastronomy. With your expert local guide, weave through medieval streets and colorful stalls piled high with foie gras, truffles, walnuts, honey, seasonal fruit and vegetables, discovering why Sarlat is a must‑visit for food lovers.

Artisanal Cheese Tasting
Begin at a cheese shop with its own maturing cellar, where you sample a curated selection of artisanal cheeses from the region. Learn to recognize the flavors and textures of Rocamadour goat cheese and creamy tomme‑style cow’s cheeses, while your guide explains how terroir and aging shape their character.

Strolling Sarlat’s Medieval Market Streets
Follow your guide through Sarlat’s medieval lanes and open‑air food market, held right in the historic center. Depending on the season, you might taste Périgord strawberries, mushrooms, or other fresh produce straight from local farms as you meet the vendors behind these specialties.

Duck, Goose, Wine and More Cheese
Continue to a family‑run delicacies shop for a generous tasting of duck and goose pâtés, enchaud and foie gras, served on bite‑size toasts. The experience finishes with the famous Trappe d’Échourgnac cheese, aged with walnut liqueur, perfectly paired with local white and red Bergerac wines.

Walnut Bakery Indulgence
End at a traditional walnut bakery on Sarlat’s main market street, where you can see the workshop and ovens behind the counter. Sample an array of walnut cakes, brownies, tarts and chocolates, discovering why Périgord walnuts and walnut oil are at the heart of the region’s dessert culture.

This is a concise tour to whet your appetite for further discovery of the wonders of the Dordogne and its glorious landscape and culinary delights.. Anne was a marvelous and knowledgeable guide who speaks several languages fluently (French, English and Spanish at least). I am grateful to her for waiting for me to escape the hold of the ghost of King Richard the Lionhearted at the Château de Beynac.

Great day trip from Strasbourg. Our guide was personable and informative and we were taken to three smaller family wineries where the owner/family member conducted a fulsome and friendly tasting. Also a nice break for lunch in a picturesque town. Definitely recommend for a chance to see the countryside and get a better sense of Alsatian wines.
