Itinerary
The tour begins on the Montjuïc Mountain, from where you can enjoy the scenic panoramic views of the city. The mountain, originally used as a strategic place to defend the city against attacks, is now home to the splendid Miró foundation and the Caixa Forúm. These and other buildings on the mountain, perfectly illustrate examples of modern art and contemporary architecture. The Montjuïc also includes examples of town planning and architecture especially designed for the 1929 International Exhibition.
Pass by: To reach Barcelona's coastline, we will drive through Las Ramblas, the very famous avenue of the city.
Pass by: After the Montjuïc, you will head to Barcelona’s coast, passing by the Columbus Monument and the Gothic Drassanes. The beach is surrounded by the latest architecture, best represented by the World Trade Centre and the transformed Old Port. Maintaining its authentic charm, Port Vell is now full of restaurants, nightclubs and fantastic shops.
Pass by: We will pass by the big Columbus Monument, a tall memorial to Christopher Columbus.
Further, you will enjoy a stroll in the Gothic Quarter, known as one of the districts that are part of Ciutat Vella, the old town of the city. In Ciutat Vella, where the history of Barcelona first started, you will experience a harmonious mix of modernity with Roman and medieval imprints. There you will learn about the Catalan traditions and Barcelona’s origins, while exploring the enchanting corners, picturesque plazas and the narrow alleys of the Gothic quarter.
Pass by: You will be able to pass by Plaça Sant Jaume, one of the main, oldest and most representative squares of Ciutat Vella
Pass by: You will have the chance to admire the façade of the gothic cathedral of Barcelona, seat of the archbishopric of Barcelona
Pass by: We will drive through the Eixample district, designed by Ildefons Cerdà after 1895, to expand the city. (The word “Eixample” actually means “expansion” in Catalan). Passing by the streets of this elegant neighborhood, you will see that Cerdà’s concept of urban planning was revolutionary and utopian.
Admire the breathtaking Sagrada Familia. It is considered as the most symbolical landmark of Barcelona. There are no words to describe the feeling one gets when entering this magnificent temple of Modernism. The organic shapes found throughout its structure, the light filtering through its stained glass windows and the symbolic nature of the building’s sculpted façade will probably be the highlight of this tour and maybe of your whole stay.
Pass by: We will pass through the luxurious Passeig de Gràcia, with its typical Catalan architecture. The avenue is home to the most impressive façades of modernist buildings, counting Gaudi’s La Pedrera, Casa Batlló, Casa Lleó - Morera or Casa Ametller.
Pass by: Take in the unique, wave-like façade of Casa Milà, or La Pedrera, a true Gaudí masterpiece that stands out with its bold design.
Pass by: Marvel at the beautiful façade of Casa Batlló, with its vibrant colors, and details that make it one of Gaudí's most iconic works.
Pass by: We will pass in front of Casa Lleó - Morera or Casa Ametller, built by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech.
