Itinerary
Your tour begins outside the legendary Moulin Rouge windmill. Built in 1889, the same year as Paris’ World Fair Expo, this famed eye-catching cabaret shares a birth year with the Eiffel Tower and has become a symbol of Montmartre. Home to the risqué cancan dance, Le Moulin Rouge has been delighting visitors for over 130 years with its Vegas-like theatrics and sumptuous interior.
Pass by: A winding, historic artery of Montmartre, Rue Lepic is famous for its vibrant cafes, traditional markets, and the iconic Moulin de la Galette windmill. It’s the perfect stretch to experience the bohemian soul of Paris, famously featured in the film Amélie.
Pass by: This third-floor apartment was home to Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo from 1886 to 1888. It was here that Vincent's palette famously brightened, inspired by the light of Montmartre and the bustling Parisian art scene.
A quintessential Montmartre thoroughfare, Rue des Abbesses is a lively hub of chic boutiques, classic bistros, and the stunning Art Nouveau entrance to the Abbesses Metro station. It serves as the neighborhood's social heart, offering an authentic taste of daily Parisian life and vibrant café culture.
Pass by: A pioneering masterpiece of Art Nouveau, this church is famous for being the first religious building constructed using reinforced concrete and vibrant turquoise ceramics. Its distinctive "brick-and-iron" design and intricate stained glass make it a hidden architectural gem at the foot of the hill.
Winding cobblestone streets. Artists painting outdoors. Fresh-baked baguettes. These are just a few of the sights and smells you’ll experience on this Montmartre Tour. As you turn towards Montmartre’s cobblestone streets, you will soon notice the village-like ambiance of this distinct neighborhood. This is especially true as you see the shops along the Rue des Martyrs, which legend has it was the very street the first bishop of Paris was crucified. Your guide will also draw your attention to Montmartre’s historic vineyard landscape, and the centuries’ old history behind some of the winemakers in the area. You will have plenty of time to take pictures by the former homes of artists such as Van Gogh, Renoir and Picasso. You will also have the chance to stop by Montmartre’s oldest cabaret - Au Lapin Agile. Founded in 1860, Au Lapin Agile frequently hosted famous artists such as such as Edith Piaf and inspired paintings by the likes of Picasso and Utrillo.
Pass by: As one of the oldest churches in Paris, this historic site features original Romanesque architecture and ancient Roman columns salvaged from a former temple to Mars. It offers a peaceful, spiritual contrast to the bustling Place du Tertre located just steps away.
Pass by: Located in the Square Jehan-Rictus, this striking art installation features "I love you" written over 311 times in 250 different languages. Spanning 40 square meters of dark lava tiles, it serves as a symbolic meeting point for lovers and a global tribute to peace.
Pass by: The world-famous heartbeat of Montmartre, this bustling square is packed with portrait artists and caricaturists carrying on the neighborhood’s rich bohemian legacy. Surrounded by historic bistros, it offers a lively, open-air gallery atmosphere that captures the timeless artistic spirit of Paris.
Before reaching Montmartre’s summit and the pure white Sacré-Cœur, enjoy a delicious slice of freshbaked bread from one of Montmartre’s highly awarded bakeries. After loading up on crunchy carbs, it’s time to head up to Montmartre’s most famous church and enjoy unforgettable views of the Paris skyline. Although your adventure ends here, feel free to walk inside Sacré-Cœur after you have taken your requisite selfies.

Eden- Montmartre
Eden was our guide and I cannot recommend her highly enough. We had a private tour and she was incredibly knowledgable about history. She’s absolutely delightful and fun - this tour was worth every penny. It’s a hike but it’s done at a reasonable pace. I plan to go back to the area before I leave Paris - such a fun part of the city!
