Fun tasting experience
Great tasting experience with fun and knowledgeable hosts. Very small distillery but lovely bar and great way to set it up so that the process can be seen from above.
A Fun and Friendly Experience
Visiting the Micil Distillery is an easy, uncomplicated event to schedule. Perhaps you have to do just a bit of looking to find it through a doorway at the back of the Oslo Bar but it’s worth it. Sixteen participants sampled 3 whiskeys. We learned how whiskey is made and its history. At the end we were allowed to try anything else in the showroom, albeit a thimble full. The staff was friendly and informative.
Loved it - thank you for a wonderful day!
My husband and I had the best time at Micil Distillery for a whiskey tasting. I loved the space that we were in. We ended up being there for the whole two hours chatting with Lauren (the best!) about the history of the family distillery and Western Ireland. It was hard to pick a favorite from everything sampled! Would highly recommend if you are heading to Galway to add to your travel plans.
A brilliant Galway experience — the poitín was the standout!
I took my son on the Micil Distillery tour and we both thought it was brilliant. Lauren was fantastic, warm, personable and extremely knowledgeable. I learned so much about the origins of whiskey and poitín, and how native flowers and berries are used for flavouring. The whiskey was quaffable, but the poitín was the real standout. I also loved hearing the family’s story, their connection to Connemara, and the local legends and folklore, including "Away with the Fairies". It was a great experience, excellent value, and I would happily bring other guests here when visiting Galway. I am local myself and still found the tour fascinating. I will definitely be booking the gin tour next! Highly recommended!
Many insights in a small group
Micil is one of the smallest distilleries in Ireland. You learn a lot with a total of four (!) tasting glasses.
