360 minutes – 480 minutes
Donegal Town, Ireland

Full description

At the top of Northeast Donegal is Inishowen, Ireland's largest peninsula. On this Wild Atlantic Way tour, I'll show you around part of the peninsula's 100-mile coastal drive known as the 'Inishowen 100'. On your journey, you'll see the glacial fjord, Lough Swilly, which inspired the hymn 'Amazing Grace'. You'll learn the ancient celestial secrets of Grianan of Aileach ring fort, seat of power of the chieftains of Ulster. I'll recount the tragedy of the SS Laurentic and its undiscovered gold near Fort Dunree. You'll travel through the nerve-racking Mamore Gap and defy physics on the 'Magic Road'. A visit to Doagh Famine Village will have you step back in time, hearing how life used to be in the area. Your day culminates in a galaxy far, far away by reaching Malin Head, Ireland's most Northerly point and the filming location of Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi. The tour is in a fun, relaxed manner, with plenty of jokes, tall tales and the odd song too!

Our day with Henry was exceptional something we will never forget.

Our tour with Henry remains a highlight of our trip. Henry was knowledgeable, but more importantly, he took a genuine interest in our interests and in our family’s history. As a result Henry customized our trip to give us a unique perspective on the Inishowen Peninsula. This tour is exceptional.

The best way to see all of the Wild Atlantic Way!!

If you are ever in Donegal- book with Henry & Donegal Tours! It was the most incredible experience we had in 1 day! We booked the Innishowen Tor/ Malin head Booking was easy Henry responded quickly and professionally The day before our tour he gave us our location to meet him in Donegal. He was there early His Mercedes van was clean, comfortable, packed with waters & umbrellas ( if need be) His knowledge of the area, its history & present day knowledge of the area was fantastic. My father is a huge history buff- he probably talked & asked questions to Henry all day! Henry was more than happy to answer & share everything with him! The rugged landscapes are breathtaking here! The roads are not for the faint of heart! Henry maneuvered around all the twists & turns with precise professionalism! We had wonderful weather! We saw Griaanan fort A local man gave us such insight to this area and its history We drive through the lovely town of Buncrana, Fort Dunree which was magical against the ocean The cloudy weather, a slight drizzle then a burst of sunshine made it most magical! My favorite part was our trip down to the Gap of Mamore! We stopped at the “Magic Toad” where he put the van in neutral- took his feet off the gas pedal & his hands off the wheel ! The van slowly moved up hill with the help of the Fairies!!! ( believe in the magic & folklore in Ireland) The views are simply BREATHTAKING here! Our last stop was the dough Famine village It was so interesting The guide is the owner & lived I. These thatched cottages himself - do t forget to go through the haunted room for a little spooky fun! Although we didn’t get to Malin head due to road construction up there- we cannot recommend Henry & Donegal tours enough We will definitely book with him again! Thank you Henry!’

Henry is an amazing tour guide! We highly recommend!

We spent about 2-1/2 days with Henry just last month touring Donegal and the Inishowen Peninsula. We loved every minute of our time with him. Because of our limited time there, he personalized an itinerary for us which was fantastic. He was so personable, knowledgeable, flexible, and his transport vehicle was incredibly comfortable and immaculately maintained. We are looking forward to returning to the Inishowen Peninsula. I would not go back to Ireland without spending time there!
