The IDEAL way to experience Donegal!
As we were initially unable to acquire a hired car for our holiday, one of our party booked Henry for a full day tour around Donegal and it was the highlight of our stay. Henry had to travel quite a distance to pick us up, but he did so without hesitation. Being unfamiliar with Donegal, we left the itinerary up to him and he made the day a special and very memorable one for us. He was a pleasure to travel with- his mode of transport was so comfortable and luxurious and he was wondering entertaining, chatty and informative from start to finish. Among the places Henry brought us to were Glenveagh National Park, Rathmullen and Ramrealton, the beautiful Ballymastocker Bay and, the highlight of the day, Fanad Lighthouse. Along the way, he told us so many interesting facts and stories about each of these, with many more inbetween. We stopped at several other beauty spots throughout the day as well, where Henry gave us a chance to take a few photos or do a bit of souvenir shopping. We cannot praise him highly enough for making our trip so memorable and enjoyable and we recommend him unreservedly, especially if you are unfamiliar with Donegal. Thanks Henry for being such an entertaining and thoughtful tour guide and we’ll be back again in the future, to explore the Inishowen Peninsula with you!
A Memorable Day in Fanad
This was the first leg of our Ireland visit and we hired Donegal Tour Guide to help us get acquainted with the area and find the remote townland where our ancestors once lived. Henry’s friendliness and expertise made him the right choice for both. He picked us up promptly at our hotel in Donegal Town and transported us comfortably in his minivan. Our day was a delightful combination of the highlights of the Fanad Peninsula Tour and a personalized journey to my great-grandmother’s birthplace on that peninsula. Henry combined a knowledge of the region’s history and geography with the passion only a local could provide, answering our many questions about modern life in Donegal. Every stop was a highlight, including Rathmullan, with views across Lough Swilly as well as the awe-inspiring vistas at Fanad Lighthouse and Ballymastocker Bay. We enjoyed a waterside lunch complete with Henry's local recommendations of the alcohol (Kinnegar) and non-alcohol (Football Special) varieties. The afternoon was a very thoughtfully researched trek through our family homeland. Thanks to Henry, who showed us the meaning of Céad Míle Fáilte, our day in Fanad was among the most memorable of our trip.
