Loire Valley Castles from Paris

Discover the magic of the Loire Valley, often called the “Garden of France,” on a full-day adventure from Paris. This region, once a favored retreat of French kings during the Renaissance, blends fairytale castles, elegant architecture and a rich royal past.

Château de Chambord

Begin at the magnificent Château de Chambord, a masterpiece of French Renaissance design. Its vast façade, intricate roofline and famous double-helix staircase, traditionally linked to Leonardo da Vinci’s influence, make it one of the most remarkable castles in France.

Château d’Amboise

Continue to the royal Château d’Amboise, strategically perched above the Loire River. This fortress-turned-residence illustrates the transition from medieval stronghold to Renaissance palace and offers sweeping views over the surrounding countryside.

Château de Chenonceau

Your journey then leads to the elegant Château de Chenonceau, gracefully spanning the River Cher. Known as the “Ladies’ Castle” for the powerful women who shaped its history, its arches, galleries and formal gardens lend it a romantic, storybook charm.

This is a concise tour to whet your appetite for further discovery of the wonders of the Dordogne and its glorious landscape and culinary delights.. Anne was a marvelous and knowledgeable guide who speaks several languages fluently (French, English and Spanish at least). I am grateful to her for waiting for me to escape the hold of the ghost of King Richard the Lionhearted at the Château de Beynac.

Great day trip from Strasbourg. Our guide was personable and informative and we were taken to three smaller family wineries where the owner/family member conducted a fulsome and friendly tasting. Also a nice break for lunch in a picturesque town. Definitely recommend for a chance to see the countryside and get a better sense of Alsatian wines.
