Itinerary
Let us know you have arrived at the reception of the Medieval Mile Museum. Then we start the tour outside.
Endowing an alms house could grant indulgences, easing the journey of the founder’s soul after death, and offering the same grace to those who prayed for him. Sir Richard’s foundation was carefully written into his will, ensuring that prayers for his soul would be said regularly by the residents.
From here, goods arrived from across Ireland and beyond, and ships were loaded for continental markets.
In 1324, Kilkenny became the stage for one of the most infamous trials in medieval Ireland, the case of Alice Kyteler accused of being a Witch.
A courthouse now but once was called Graces Castle. The Grace family were one of Kilkenny’s most prominent Old English merchant dynasties — part of the influential Ten Tribes who dominated the city’s political, economic, and social life from the late medieval period into the 17th century
In the Middle Ages, the city’s walls defined not just its defences, but its identity, marking the boundary between those who belonged to the civic community and those outside it.
This is a non-stop, casual stroll, with guides using this final stretch to share the story of St Marys Cathedral, the Tholsol and the Hole in the Wall.

Informative and enjoyable. Start at the museum and see many historical sites. A great introduction to Kilkenny
Walking tour of Kilkenny
This tour was narrated by a guide from the Medieval Museum. He was very well informed and was native of Kilkenny. We had a nice walk thru the city learning history at every stop. This tour included a visit to the museum where you can see tombs and other artifacts. The museum is in an old church converted to museum.
