Red bus City tour joburg
Lala at the rosebank kiosk was really helpful and bubbly It was a pleasure!
10/10 Soweto tour a MUST
Great, informative! The Seweto tour was absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend the tour with Kagiso and Kagiso (apologies for the spelling if wrong). Amazing tour guide and driver. Informative, funny, kind. Really strongly would recommend.
Joburg is the place to be in South Africa!
I was in the most fortunate position of being the only 'tourist' with the most amazing two young men! Mogomotsi, the driver and Kagiso the guide, were informed, charming, attentive, friendly ... three of the best hours we had! I was bowled over! Thanks to two inspirational young South Africans! Although tourists have to be careful all over the world, (my passport was stolen in Paris, France), I never felt unsafe!
2 hours and 30 minutes to understand JOZZI
A rather uninteresting city, but the commentary is very informative.
Great way to see more of the city than you would just exploring by yourself
A big bright red tourist bus is more or less the last thing I usually feel myself associating with, being a steadfast devotee of solo-travel and experiencing things for myself. However in this case I opted for the HOHO Bus because I knew I wouldn't drive my rental car through CBD or Soweto, and I didn't regret it for a second. The commentary is good, non-intrusive over the headphones (many languages available), although I very much suggest you bring your own headphones - they provided ones are one-use terrible quality ones, mine didn't even properly work on both earbuds unless I pulled the cord taught. The highlight for me (others seem to agree) was the Soweto extension, so I suggest getting that. It was just me and one women on the Soweto bus, but even with more people it would still feel a lot more personal that the rest of the tour because you have actual guides there instead of the audio commentary. We didn't walk around much at all, which I think is normal but maybe was enforced by the rainy weather. Our guides were Keamogetswe (Kea) and for a short part Thabang, with driver Vincent. Particularly our main guide Kea was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, very personable and made this into a real experience. The only thing I did not appreciate was that the guides directly connected us some of the tourist souvenir vendors. While I do understand the need to hustle to make a living and that it's a way to get tourist money into the population, I suggest leaving it up to the tourist to either engage or not engage with the stands, rather than basically introducing them to the hawkers (probably for a commission).
