Hiroshima Bar Hopping Food Tour

Kaku, my guide, was very kind. When I showed up for the tour, I was surprised to be the only one on the tour that day. I wondered if this young man would mind hanging out with a middle-aged woman for a few hours, and he could not have been nicer. We went to three different places which included the very traditional local okonomiyaki-truly one of the versions of this dish I have eaten in Hiroshima. Kaku not told me how this dish is made but the historical origins as well.. It was divine, and chef Yamada-san took great care of us in this very tiny restaurant that you would never find on your own. In fact, all of the establishments that we went to felt like hidden gems. I felt like I was eating like a local on this tour.. Our second stop took us to have many different skewered meats-although I believe you could also choose seafood if you would like. I tried different cuts of meat which included diaphragm and other parts of an animal that I have not previously tried. Most of these were quite delicious, and I was glad that I tried them. I am an adventurous eater but there were some things that I did not try, like chicken gizzard. The third stop brought us to a delicious ramen shop. I would suggest bringing a very reasonable appetite to this tour. You will not go home hungry-but you will definitely go home with wonderful memories feeling like you’ve just met a friend. My guide took pictures of us throughout the tour, some with the Magic Tour sign and some just of me and the various servers at the restaurants or the two of us, or me alone. I believe that you can provide permission for the company to use your photos, but you do not have to do this. Kaku’s English was flawless. He said that he was using the tour guide position to help improve his English skills; however, I honestly thought that he was nearly fluent. Very few words were difficult for him to easily recall. I found it very easy to converse with him. The only negative thing I have to say is that it is difficult to find the meeting spot, at least for me. I did use the Google Maps locator that was provided on Tripadvisor, and the company did call me to help me get to the destination, but I had suggested to my guide that a landmark based starting point would be helpful for foreign guests in the future. We met right in front of the Gucci store, and had someone told me that, it would have been much easier than trying to find specific coordinates or a map address that was not bringing me to the spot I needed to be. Aside from this very minor administrative wrinkle that could probably easily be solved, the tour is so worthwhile and I would recommend it to anyone .

Great fun time to try local dishes in great company. Our guide Hika was excellent and made us feel very welcome and shared many personal insights. Highly reccommend! Also so much good food

Food tour was a great experience with our guide Yoko! She was very welcoming and loved getting to see her favorite places around the city. Food was amazing and got to see some local places that we otherwise wouldn’t have gone into! Would definitely recommend!
