Traveler reviews
Poorly maintained equipment and dismissive employees
Despite there being a stop right outside the cruise port we had to walk almost a mile to get on a bus. There were two routes, one blue one red. The red bus arrived first so we boarded. The route took about an hour and half. We exited that bus at the starting point and then boarded the blue route bus. The earphone system did not work for English at all. The majority of the people on the ride were English speaking. When we brought it to the attention of the bus attendant, she flippantly told us all we are welcome to get off that bus and try another blue route bus. She advised us that “this was the only bus that had an issue with the audio system.” Additionally, the blue route busses all had an opaque plastic cover, which made it impossible to view anything other than direct line of sight to the side. It also, made for a horrible green house effect. I approached the attendants in the office about the blue route ride and I was summarily dismissed. I asked for a partial refund, which was denied! As a Travel Agent that makes travel referrals this is did not meet my expectations and I cannot recommend.
Overpriced for what you get. Use public transport instead.*
We bought a 2-day hop-on hop-off pass for €60 for May 11-12. Honestly, not worth it. *What went wrong:* - *Buses were overloaded and unreliable*: We spent more time waiting and watching full buses drive past than we did on board. Schedules weren’t followed. - *Audio guide didn’t work*: Never turned on once. Just looped music for the entire route. - *Poor staff experience*: Apart from the first staff member who checked our booking at XX Serestri, the rest seemed unhappy and couldn’t help with basic questions. - *Route itself is fine*: The stops cover the main sights, so no issue there. For €60 you can do way better using Genoa’s metro and buses. They’re frequent, cheap, and you’ll actually get around. I’d only recommend this if you’re on a cruise with limited time in port and don’t want to plan anything yourself. Otherwise, skip it.
The most expensive transport of my life
25 Euros per person (75 Euros in 3) to take the bus 1) they passed late compared to the times communicated 2) they took different routes from those provided 3) they had the audio guide that on the way out you could not hear because the headphones were loose and did not make contact, on the way back it simply did not work, as the driver told us when we got on 4) listen to irrelevant descriptions in the rare moments when you heard something. To go to Boccadasse we would have spent less and learned more by taking a limousine driven by any driver from Genoa. To be avoided.
Great service from Martina and Giorgia
Martina and Giorgia were excellent! So nice and helpful. I highly recommend them.
Old buses and nothing to see
The hop on hop off buses have two routes you can take. We took both and didn't really se anything worth while on either route. The buses are old and on several of them, the headphone jacks did not work. We've been on a lot of hop on hop off buses in different places and these are the worst ones we've ever been on.
