I would advise taking an...

I would advise taking an excursion rather than staying in the port city. I found Genoa to be dirty with a lot of traffic. The only part of the route that I enjoyed is when it took me to the resort area of town.

If it looks like a busy day, don’t risk it!!

The buses are very crowd dependent and the tour company does not stop selling tickets when they reach their max. To be fair, my husband took this very bus tour 2 years ago in July. He had a good experience and recommended it highly. However, today we arrived by cruise ship. There was at least one other ship in port. We paid 50 euros for 2 tickets and COULD NEVER USE THEM. The line to get on at the port was so huge it would have filled probably 4 empty busses. And, with mostly full busses arriving every 20-30 minutes we finally gave up and took a taxi into a central area where there was another bus stop. Here again, busses were mostly full with 40 people waiting and 2-4 allowed on at a stop. Some people had a wristband for priority boarding (didn’t know you could do that or we would have) and most of them were also left in the dust. After waiting through 3 busses with no hope of boarding, we gave up and took a taxi back to the ship. Honestly, I’m wondering if I should do a charge back on my card for this service we could not use.

Very poor Red bus tour- Poor reflection of city sightseeing buses

I’ve Done many of the red bus experiences around the world and they have all been excellent. Sadly Genoa offers a very poor experience and it seems its Tripadvisor rating reflects this. I am guessing given lack of competition they are happy with the subpar service they are providing. Issues. Long wait times for a bus (over 1hr at times today)- the lagging and bug filled app means that the live map of buses is basically unusable most of the time. Some buses announce stops- others don’t. Some buses change from red route to blue route without prior warning. You need to follow closely on google maps or similar to navigate where you are. Lots of the bus seats and audio equipment is damaged. I Have a two day pass but already switched to walking/public transport and haven’t got the effort levels to request a partial refund- easier to leave a review so other people don’t feel short changed. Genoa easily walkable. Get a local taxi/bus to Boccadasse and you have covered it at a fraction of the cost.

A Must when visiting Genoa.

Great way to learn about the area. Hop on and off for 24 hours. Lots of history and sights of Genoa.
