Itinerary
Voted the third greatest garden in the world, Powerscourt Gardens have something for everybody. Three hundred years of history, great works of art, magnificent scenery, stunning flowers, and trees. It's a must-see for visitors to Ireland. You will be walking in the footsteps of British royalty, American Presidents, European Royalty, Movie Stars, and lots more. There is also great shopping for Irish-made goods, a cafe with delicious cakes and food, and a whiskey distillery on site. It's a great place to begin your day in Wicklow.
One of Ireland's highest mountain passes with stunning scenery along its route, it's famous for the views over the Guinness lake where countless movies and TV Shows have been made such as Braveheart, Excaliber, P. S. I Love You, and the Vikings TV series. We will stop for photographs along the way on route to lunch while you hear stories of the many famous people who lived and worked there. .
Set in a beautiful valley in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park, the 6th-century ancient monastic city of Glendalough is the best-preserved ruins from the period when Ireland was the only Christian place in western Europe and a centre of learning. Following a guided tour of the remains, there are lots of beautiful trails to explore along the two lakes.
We will have lunch in a typical Irish pub or restaurant depending on your preference such as in Johnnie Foxes founded in 1798 and full of good food, stories, and great local beers, whiskeys and gins.

Magical day in the Wicklow Mountains
My husband and I spent a wonderful day in the Wicklow Mountains with John ending when he dropped us off at the international ferry port of Rosslare. He knows all the most beautiful and interesting spots as well as the local stories and folklore. The depth and width of his knowledge across many disciplines is remarkable. I am sorry that time didn't permit a stop at the Powercourt Gardens but hope to do that on our next visit to Dublin. Glendalough was a huge highlight - very moving to be among those ancient ruins and to learn about its long history as a place of pilgrimage. Definitely not to be missed. There is also nearby an excellent restaurant for an enjoyable stop if you are so inclined. We learned a great deal on this trip and thoroughly enjoyed John's company. Above all, he is devoted to his clients' welfare and enjoyment of the trip. Anyone who has him as their guide is in for a wonderful experience.
Terrific Experience
John was professional, responsive to questions and concerns before the trip, extremely knowledgable, an excellent driver and fun to spend the day with. We would highly recommend John and his company.
John Ducie is an Outstanding tour guide!
John was an extraordinary guide! He was prompt, prepared, engaging, insightful, pleasant and so very knowledgeable. If you are considering any form of a genealogy tour around Ireland, our family gives John Ducie the highest possible ranking! If circumstances allow, we will call on him again!
Great experience!!
John’s amazing knowledge and explanations of history of the magical sites we saw. It was educational and fun! He was a very good driver.
Two days full of beauty and knowledge!
We spent two days with John. The first day we visited the Boyne Valley (New Grange, Hill of Tara, Monasterboice.) The second we visited the Wicklow Valley, Powerscourt Gardens, Glendalough, and the absolutely gorgeous drive there and back.( I could have spent a full day at each of these sites.) John is friendly and professional. He is knowledgeable about history, archeology, horticulture, literature, genealogy, pop culture and more. His choices for lunch were excellent. I highly recommend John's tours .
