Discover Freiburg, Gateway to the Black Forest
Leaving Alsace, you follow a scenic route to Freiburg im Breisgau, a medieval university town on the edge of the Black Forest. With your guide, stroll the cobbled Old Town, admire the Gothic spire of the Freiburg Minster and see the famous Bächle, the shallow water channels that run along the pavements. After the guided walk, enjoy free time to explore at your own pace, browse shops or sample local specialties in one of the cafés or traditional restaurants.
Scenic Drive through the Black Forest
In the afternoon, your route continues into the Black Forest, a vast wooded mountain range whose dark pine‑clad slopes inspired many Brothers Grimm fairytales. As you follow one of the region’s panoramic roads, you pass through storybook villages and along tranquil lakes, with photo stops to capture sweeping views and, if you wish, to taste regional treats such as Black Forest cake or smoked ham.
The Magic and Flavours of the Black Forest
Along the way, learn how the area became famous for its handcrafted cuckoo clocks, and hear the legends that still cling to its deep forests. If you are a wine enthusiast, your guide can help arrange an optional wine tasting at a selected local winery, giving you the chance to sample German wines alongside the sweet specialties of the region.
Return to Colmar
As the afternoon light softens over the hills, you sit back in the minivan for the relaxing drive back across the Rhine. Your guide returns you to your accommodation in Colmar, with a camera full of photos and a richer sense of the landscapes, flavours and stories that link Alsace with the Black Forest.

Reviews
This is a concise tour to whet your appetite for further discovery of the wonders of the Dordogne and its glorious landscape and culinary delights.. Anne was a marvelous and knowledgeable guide who speaks several languages fluently (French, English and Spanish at least). I am grateful to her for waiting for me to escape the hold of the ghost of King Richard the Lionhearted at the Château de Beynac.
(Translated by Google) A lovely tour of the Dordogne castles, beautiful views, and a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, thank you Ana. (Original) Un precioso tour por los castillos de la Dordoña, lindas vistas, y una guía muy simpática y conocedora del lugar, gracias Ana.
Great day trip from Strasbourg. Our guide was personable and informative and we were taken to three smaller family wineries where the owner/family member conducted a fulsome and friendly tasting. Also a nice break for lunch in a picturesque town. Definitely recommend for a chance to see the countryside and get a better sense of Alsatian wines.
